congratulations ive found a golden ticket

Options
just came home with a leaflet which i presume fell out of a magazine from tesco,,,,says basically,"congratulations you have found a GOLDEN TICKET",, it tells me i am guaranteed to win a prize ranging from, mini dvd player,£65 M&S voucher ,a prague city break, 32" sony TV and DVD , or £3000 cash payment, plus a few other very appealing prizes, i work out you need to pay about £5.00 in premium calls to claim the prize. SO WHATS THE CATCH,,,,,has anyone ever followed one of these through....?
Titch :)

I'm afraid it'll be a scam. One of the prizes although sounding appealing, won't be because of the conditions attached. And that'll be the one everyone wins.

Better binned than money wasted following it through.

yeah i did one of these once, because all of the prizes seemed appealing. it said I was guaranteed to have won one of them, and there were no rubbish prizes (eg keyring etc) listed.

So guess what I won a holiday (to Paris, 2 nites, by coach, with a load of other strangers) even though this prize hadn't been mentioned!

Needless to say I didn't take it! but it was ok coz I send the form by mail instead of phoning, so no money lost really!

But I've learnt my lesson... and that is to BIN THESE SCAMS!!!

I got one of these and, being at work one boring day - decided to phone to see what I had won. They spent ages repeating all the tickets numbers of the good prizes and by the time I'd been on the phone about 7 mins, they very quickly stated that all other tickets had 'won' this emerald necklace, if you sent an SAE to an address in Dublin. They gave the address details very very quickly and not at all clearly, and guess what - only once. The call ended so if I'd wanted to claim the prize I would have had to have rung again. Another 7 minutes at £1.50 a call? I bet the lovely necklace was an old chip of emerald worth about 20p in a bit of poor quality gold coloured metal - total worth, about £1 . For some reason, decided to resist the urge to ring again. :)

    I prefer diamonds myself ;D

i actually "won" a blue ticket prize and because there were no rubbish prizes i rang and it cost me £6.00, but it did say i had won a holiday to greece, and as i was looking for a holiday at the time this was great, but when it came through it was half board trip to greece for ONE. which would of been great if i was single but i am married with 3 kids so i couldnt use it, and it has to be the named winner that travelled so you cant even pass it on. beware!

I think you contradicted yourself there, jpaine.
because there were no rubbish prizes i rang and it cost me £6.00,  but it did say i had won a holiday to greece,  and as i was looking for a holiday at the time this was great, but when it came through it was  half board trip to greece for ONE.

Like I said in my earlier post, these things are ALWAYS scams and there is always one prize which, despite sounding OK, is actually completely rubbish.

Hubby found a "winning" golden snowflake ticket in his paper, all prizes sounded good, but you have to ring a premium number to find out which one you've got.

Before doing so, I typed golden snowflake ticket into google and up came 2 of the same tickets for sale in respect of an austrian ski holiday for 1 person (the ticket doesn't mention the "for 1" bit!). One has sold for £26 and the other is currently at £31, so seems there is a way of getting the money back that you spent on the phonecall!

Obviously a con to get rid of a load of crappy singles holidays - would be interested to know how many of the cash prizes listed are available, if any.

You'll have won the one that'll cost you more money than it's worth. HTH!
  • You have to be careful, because even if you do win and claim by post (legally you can apply for the cost of an SAE to get a claim number, then another one to get your prize), it might still cost you something.I got a ferry trip to france for two (good if you want cheap booze) and it cost 2 SAEs.

Sometimes the small print says there is a "processing cost" or "delivery cost". This reminds me of the prize bank consortium (or something similar).
  • I di one of these once out of curiousity. After being on the phone for about 7 ish mins, i was told i won an emerald neclace. So i sent for it.

I recieved this tiny green stone, uncut, (looked like something out of the garden..!)
I had to send it away to their cutters to get it transformed and set in to the neclace. Which as you can imagine was a stupid amount of money.
So i think it is tucked away in some draw never to see light again...!!!
