Not sure if it has already been mentioned but Morrisons are selling 3kg bags of Iams for less that £9. i.e. £3 off.

Normal price at other shops varies from £12 - £15.

  • Make sure it goes through the tills at that price because the last time they had it marked down on the shelf it went throught the till at £12.99!

Same in Sainsburys at the moment, the shelf is marked at £7.99 being 50p off but went through the till at £11.99 but this time I was ready for them and held out for the shelf marked price. :D
  • Is anyone convinced that this stuff is worth the huge premium it costs over normal good quality, vitamin packed cat food at 60p - £1 per kg. I'm highly sceptical.
  • Yes, I am, lol.

It is termed as a complete food where the cheap biccie type is in addition, normally, to wet food. I have fed all my cats on IAMs and have three sleek, shiny cats who never have tummy problems unless they have eaten outside.

By outside I mean what they catch and I often think they possibly catch more cos they want a bit of meat ::)
  • IAMS is not considered a good cat food for male cats, it causes bladder problems. I feed mine on Hills Science plan which has always got a £3 off voucher inside. Then buy some whiskas pockets and mix the food with hills, saving you about £7. Always buy the biggest bag you can, they have great re-seal zippers.

If you do get a big bag make sure its a good date.

And if you write to hills saying how much your cat loves it they will send you a £3 voucher.

Hills gaurantee that your cat will love this product or your money back, and it does smell really nice, one night after a few G&T's i tried it, it smells better than it tastes ;D ;D ;D

Where did you find this information? Can it be backed up? I ask because I have always fed my two cats on Iams and they are super sleek and healthy. I am happy to change, but need some facts before I do it.
  • Just ask your vet, ours told us this although ours are females, apparently it affects older male cats.

I think that the proportion of male cats affected by the Iams food was minimal, not significant enough for them to consider changing their 'recipe' or putting a warning label on it - I'm sure I read a paper on it somewhere. It's the same as some people find certain foods disagree with them, but others don't have a problem eating them.

If you are feeding your cat on Iams and they are healthy and happy on it, then I wouldn't worry.

I forgot to add that male cats are more susceptible to bladder problems anyway. The urinary tract in male cats is not well-designed, narrowing down to a funnel shape as it exits the bladder. They are therefore more prone to fatal blockages of the urethra. I know quite a few vets who are happy tp recommend Iams Urinary Management foods (under the Eukanaba brand).

Thanks for the post however, I won't buy Iams anymore for ethical reasons.

However, if you spot any other deals from other pet food companies please let me know as I've four permanently hungry cats to support.

I've always fed our cats Iams, it works out no more expensive than tinned cat food, as they're only supposed to have a handful twice a day (sometimes I relent and give them more, lol). Recommended by vet to me with my first cat over 10 years ago.

I must admit, I didn't realise that there was an ethical issue with Eukeneba - if I had they wouldn't get it. But now, they won't eat any other manufactured cat food - tinned or dry.

Unfortunately I don't have a Morrisons but for the big bags Asda are a lot cheaper than Tesco or Sainsburys.
  • In that case Addy check out Sainsburys just now, I think its a pricing error but I bought two 3kg bags this week, shelf price was £7.99. Went through the till at £12.99 but the girl checked the shelf and sold them to me at £7.99 ;)
