Beagle: single minded and prone to take off and follow their noses
Springer: usually very trainable but also very excitable

Not a mix for a novice owner thats for sure!

Any cross breed could favour one parent or the other - so expect any combination of the above talents ;)

They sound fantastic and as with all dogs if you train them correctly i would imagine they would make Excellent pets.
Wish santa would bring me one for Xmas to go with our springer ,2 cats,5 chickens ,3 kids and 1 husband!!

Beagles as mentioned can be VERY stubborn... springers... scatterbrained... I'd not recommend the mix for a first dog either, nor infact would I ever recommend a puppy if you haven't had dogs before :)

Would this be first dog or even first pup if you've had dogs before? Not a mix I'd risk if you weren't fairly experienced TBH.

Even more importantly though....who bred the pups? Can you see the parents? Have they lived indoors? Are the parents good healthy examples of their breeds? Are they wormed, flea treated, fed properly, handled and cared for etc? Exactly the same questions you need to ask about ANY pup IMHO.

If they're free ad pups I'd advise running a mile....you might be lucky and get a healthy pup but again just my opinion, you're supporting a vile trade.

Rescues have pups:D but if you decide to go the breeder route you need to think as much about whether it's a good breeder as to what breed of pup would suit your household if that makes sense?

Just one point - so sane serious respectable breeder would be having pups availabloe for November/December and no one who is sane and serious about getting a pup would take one on during those months. Good breeders tend to have their litters available spring early summer so as new owners are more likely to take to walking and toilet training in the long summer evenings.
The two breeds you have mentioned - both hard work. Seems that anyone crossing those are looking to breed a good working dog - so not really an ideal family pet. The dog is going to have hunt and retrieve bred into him and will need an outlet - either work him or agility - both time consuming, not for the feint of heart
  • A relative of mine has a springer and he is a lovely boy, he was a rescue and was very neglected in his last home but it hasn't affected him at all, he is a very happy go lucky boy, loves his runs on the beach and playing with her other dogs (two other rescued dogs, a spaniel and a terrier) not much about beagles but they are supposed to be a bit stubborn.

If you are considering a crossbreed anyway, why not consider adopting from a shelter?
    money earned online so far:

  • If you are experienced with puppies and someone is at home all the time, then go for a puppy if you like.

Only get a Beagle x Springer if you want a dog that is easily distracted, ignores what you ask it to do, runs off after interesting smells, refuses to return but is able to run for hours and hours, is very bouncy and gets easily bored and destructive in the house!

If this is not you... do not go for this cross!

I cant belive someone has bred these pups intending them to go to pet homes to be honest!!?!

My sentiments entirely - another "breeder" looking a cheap buck and another litter headed to the rescues (not saying op will be handing pup into rescue but this is what happens to a lot of dogs sold as pets when really not bred to be pets)
