lost my money paid with maestro card pls help

Hi all first time posting,
wandered if anyone has any advice...
I paid for a part for my caravan over the phone to a company (dont know if im allowed to say there name) the part was £366 so we paid with our natwest debit card as dont have credit card and this was on 26/09 they said it would take 3 wks, but it didnt turn up, ive made endless phone calls to no avail, they dont answer either landline or mobile, ive emailed texted etc etc.
We Phoned the police and were shocked when they said it was civil and they would do nothing, the bank are also being unhelpful, what can i do??
Anyone with any advice I would be very very greatfull

  • Hi yes I have several times, its really hard with the language barrier too, but they keep saying they are only dealers for them and to phone them they are no help at all.
    Im gonna close my account with natwest as they are sooo unhelpful!
    Wish id have thought of this scam id be very rich!!

    Write to them, recorded delivery, demanding either the return of your money or delivery of your goods, and that if you don't receive one or the other within 14 days, you'll be starting small claims court claim.
    Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
    Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

    No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    Good advice, but perhaps your first step should be to contact Trading Standards and ask their advice.

    And don't close your bank account: any bank would have given you the same treatment. Instead, work on being good customers so that they give you a visa debit card (which comes with limited protection) or some kind of credit card.

  • hi thanks all for the replies....i have contacted trading standards and they told me to write to them recorded etc which we did and the letter hasnt been delivered they either wont sign for it or they are not there, i think i will recieve it back anyday?
    Also we are good customers of natwest, never been overdrawn and always in plenty of credit, we also have bank acc with barclays and when we were in there the other day she said that natwest should refund as we had disputed the transaction, and that is barclays policy, so i think we will put all our savings etc with barclays.
    Its a nightmare, i thought we would be protected but it seems not!!
    Hey ho fingers burnt an all that, thanks guys i will keep persuing them, also the trouble is we are on the isle of wight it would cost me all that to get there otherwise id happily pop in for a cuppa lol

    Sounds like they know your not likely to pursuit it, naming and shaming them will most certainly "rattle" their cages as even they know their name is in lights on MSE, any potential customer who does a google, are bound to find this page interesting to say the least.
