Orange are stealing my top up

Last week I bought my partner a sim card for Orange as I am with Orange myself and the calls would be cheaper.

In my local shop is a offer that if i top up £10 I get a free sim and a can of Tango. I did this got home. Put the new sim in my phone and topped up. The sim is refusing to register though and is a faulty sim.

I rang back up Orange who advised me it was a faulty sim and to take it back to the shop and exchange it for another Sim which I did. I got told the balance would be transferred over.

The new sim also failed to register so I ordered some free ones from the net. They arrived today and it registered.

I rang up Orange to ask them to transfer the balance and I got told there is nothing they can do and I have now lost the £10.

What can I do?

??? Well that's not right. I used to work in Orange CS, they can transfer the credit from one payg to another (you have the passwords and 4 digit access number for the acc with the £10, yes ?).
  • My first thought was the shop is scamming you with the offer. How much commission would a shop get from orange for a £10 top-up? My guess is no more than 50p. So why would the shop offer you a free sim (I know you can get them free sometimes) and also a can of Tango, which the shop could sell for 50p anyway? What I don't understand is how you managed to top-up when the sim did not register in the first place? Surely you can't make any calls unless it registers on the phone?

just to get them in the door?

its probably about building a habit, go to that particular shop cos want the free sim and the tango (which independent pound type discount shops round here can make money on at 25p a can) and while there might as well get a paper, oh and look the lottery is this weekend etc.

etopup is same price anywhere so they have to have some angle over everyone else to build an incentive
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
