Broadband and BT Basic

My elderly parents have recently been moved onto the "BT Basic" tariff. They didn't ask for this - BT just did it. Now they want to get broadband (with me paying for it), but BT tells them that they can't have broadband with the BT Basic tariff.
I've found various press releases about the introduction of BT Basic (including this one from BT themselves: http://www.btplc.com/News/Articles/ShowArticle.cfm?ArticleID=195eaa52-9127-4eca-91c9-a1c0db252ca2), all of which state that you can have broadband with BT Basic. But, what I cannot find anywhere is detailed terms and conditions for BT Basic.
I suspect that BT are simply lying to them, as usual. Can anyone point me towards concrete information, T&C's or whatever?

it is avail, just order BB, o2 is cheapSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0

Sadly it's not that simple. Attempting to order broadband from any ISP gets a response along the lines of "the line already has broadband or an incompatible service". It was when they 'phoned BT about this that they were told that BT Basic is the "incompatible" service (they've owned the house since it was built so we know that there are not, and never have been, any other services on the line).
So, can't do anything until BT has been kicked around the block a few times.Je suis Charlie.0 -
Update: BT has now admitted (after an hour on the phone and three staff...) that the problem is NOT that they are on BT Basic, the problem is that they are NOT on BT Basic. Despite being written to weeks ago, they are still on it's no-broadband predecessor, the light-user plan.
BT says it will be sorted out by Friday. We'll see...Je suis Charlie.0 -

email the BT head office
I think I'll just wait 'til the weekend to see if they really have sorted it out.
And if I ever want to complain properly to anyone I invariably do it the old-fashioned way, in writing. In my experience emails and 'phone calls rarely achieve anything.Je suis Charlie.0 -
