Great, sirboz, that's what I call the MSE spirit! :T :T

Don't forget - when you change your Paypal ID in Quidco, your Quidco pay-out is frozen for 10 days :o

Seeing that I gave up selling to make money (business selling) and now only sell to try and clear the cr*p that has filled my house I think I will open another paypal account.

Kit, unless you have LOADS of c**p, Paypal will generally take 20p + 3.4% of all your Paypal transactions when you have a business account.

If you do have loads to sell (£1,500+ / month), they'll take a bit less off you - the UK fee tables are here

However, isn't the same thing going to happen for your new personal account?

Are you refering to being forced to upgrade it to a business account?

If you have a business account and open a new personal account are they not unable to force you to upgrade it as you're only allowed 1 business account?
  • was getting really annoyed with paypal fees as including them in the cost was making me uncompetitive. I aint a big seller but didn't realise I'd been upgraded and that was why they were charging. Scoured the paypal site and you can downgrade if you email them which is what I've just done.
you go all your life thinking that money and comfort will bring you happiness only to find all you need is something to be enthusiastic about.:j

You can have as many paypal accounts as you want as long as each is attached to a different bank account/debit/credit card. I have more than two accounts already plus a basic account for my Quidco payments.

You don't need a business account to sell, just a premier account, although the premier account does still take the same fees as a business account. The different accounts are nothing to do with whether you are selling junk or odds and ends around the house, it is all to do with how you accept payments for your goods.

A basic account can only accept payments from a direct paypal balance transfer, ie someone can only pay you using existing paypal funds they have. HOwever, to sell on ebay and show the 'I accept paypal' logo you must have an account capable of accepting all payments, even those funded by a debit or credit card and for that you need a premier account.

Details of the 3 types of paypal accounts are here:

Once you have downgraded to a basic account remember to remove the paypal option from your auctions. All you can do is mention in the body of your auction text that you can accept paypal as long as the buyer only uses existing paypal funds and not a card.

By removing paypal as a payment option you may find your bids will reduce, and of course overseas payments will be difficult, so keep an eye on how things go for a while.

For those with multiple Paypal accounts and who haven't yet got Egg Money Manager:

Pocket a free £10 and have a single 'portal' to all your Paypal accounts (and other accounts if you feel like it).

I find this very useful because I get my Paypal balances on one single screen, and with the press of a button I can see the details of each individual account.

Get EMM before 31st January to secure your £10 (as recommended by Martin)
  • Thanks...didn't realise Paypal was on EMM
