yep...Hex (18 months) and Fudge (8ish months) still have the occasional hissy fit at each other, usually "post-vet" - nothing that a sharp "pack it up, you pair of tarts" doesn't fix..:rotfl:

They playfight, sometimes quite rough..but they really are the sloppiest pair of cats I've ever seen. We get the swiping, the wash and then "grab", the "scruff of the neck" act, the works..makes me laugh.

Even funnier is when one spooks the other, and the tails just go "whoosh". Fur up, back arch, sideways walk...you just have to laugh.

The only time I tend to keep an eye is if we're feeding "treats"..Hex is a quiet soul, but he's started to growl..very loud, very bass, very unlike him. Never attacked, but I've never heard him do it until 2 months ago. Sometimes he growls at the food itself though.. Simple cat.

He growled at me, once...he got a flick round the ear for that. Not done it since.

We've had Fudge since he was about 4 weeks old. Both are neutered.
  • There could be many reasons why your kitten is doing this eg learned behaviour, passive intimidation from other cats, lack of indoor toilet facilities, poor cleaning regime, but you firstly need to take her to the Vet to eliminate a physical cause. Then the next step is to seek advice from a pet behaviour counsellor specialising in cats such as Vicky Halls, the author of the book mentioned in Aspring's post. Free information is hard to come by but most good cat behaviour counsellors should have a web site with FAQs that you can check out. Any of Vicky Halls' books will also give you some good, practical advice for this specific problem.

my little git *pet name* :) her real name is margaret :D keeps peeing next to the understairs cupboard, cleaned it with pine disenfectant and that doesn't seem to stop her...her litter tray is just nest to the back door and she is the only cat so there is no problem there and she has no problem finding it because if the door is shut she will scratch and open the door to go to the loo......is it the wrong thing to be cleaning it with, it's starting to make the house smell , every time we walk into the living room there is a waft of cats pee not the most pleasant...we have a dog as well but they are best friends and play with each other all of the time so that isn't the problem either, the opposite really, Clive sits near the litter tray when she has a poo and if i'm not quick he has himself a little snack  what is all that about ????????

    Hi,

Yesterday I bought a kitten - exactly 8 wks old. Ive got two staffies and they're fine with him, they just like to sniff him!

Im just concerned as i bought him back home at about 6:30pm last night and so far hasn't even ate anything. He's been drinking water but all day he just wants to sleep.

Im taking him to the vets tomorrow morning just for a check up but i was wondering if anyone else had the same problem?

    Thanks
    Liz

Hiya, does he have any signs of illness such as diarrhoea or vomiting? Was he eating ok in his previous home? If there's no sign of illness & he was eating ok at the last place it's maybe just due to a new home, give him some time & leave him in a room on his own with some food & his bed etc & he'll eat when hungry. What's his name & where're pics? lol

Are you sure he was weaned? If yes, are you giving him the same make/type of food that he was being fed on before?

If thats all ok, then it could be that he's too stressed to eat. His little world has just been turned up-side-down, he's lost his mum/siblings and is in different surroundings with different smells and different noises.

It's good that he's drinking, maybe you could mash some food with water so it's really liquid so he gets a little nourishment. Don't worry too much young kittens do sleep a lot, is he playing at all?

Hope he gets on ok at the Vets ok tomorrow

He had a lil diarrhoea this morning but not much - not solid poop if you know what i mean! I think he was on whiskas at his old place but still feeding off mom aswell. He hasn't been sick at all. He doesn't really want to play he just wants to cuddle up and go to sleep or if he's awake he just cries!

Awww maybe put a ticking clock or something in bed with him & a hot water bottle, covered of course. He should've been fully weened before leaving Mum really. It's probably just down to a new home & losing his Mum & siblings, he's only a baby & we'd all feel the same. I'm sure he'll pick up soon & he'll see you as his new family. Good luck at the Vets x

Last night he wouldnt stay in his bed at all, he just climbed on my bed andd snuggled into me. Do you think i should change the water for kitten milk for the time being, well at least until i take him to the vets tomorrow. I'm just really worried about him.

I wouldn't give him milk - it's more likely to make him ill. As long as he's drinking he should be ok. You could try giving him some cooked chicken, chopped up, or a different flavour of food?
