I think you've misunderstood or misread my post. My instructor said he was confident in my driving, particularly with the methods I've handled difficult situations. I feel I've been driving perfectly the last month. I'm convinced if I hadn't had this provocation immediately before my test I wouldn't have had any problems in passing.

But as the holder of a Provisional Licence, you are hardly in position to make that judgement.

I didn't misread or misunderstand your OP, you said that you failed for stalling just after the start of the test, something that you also are not in a position to make judgement upon.

I am 100% sure that you did not fail for just stalling on one occasion.

When I read the headline topic I thought that's new, then I read the story. Ok the signature did not failed your test, your driving fail to pass. The examiner questioning you on your signature caused you undue stress which probably hindered your driving.

The best you can get now is to make a complain and get a free test next time.

Not if the examiner was acting upon her instructions from her employer, the DSA, which I believe she was.

I think that yes the examiner acted inappropriately in showing lack of compassion. You recognise that YOU failed the test - but you believe it's because you were so un-nerved before the test - again I can understand that. I failed my first test many years ago (or lordy... nearly 12 years!) with so many minor faults I was amazed he didn't make me pull over and take the keys off me! Yet the only fault I myself could honestly identify was being in the wrong lane at one point for a round about and that was because the examiner said to go straight until he said otherwise and gave me less than 50 yards to get in the right lane when he decided we should go right instead of straight! However I resat mine as soon afterwards as I legally could and passed it with 2 minor faults - yet didn't think I'd done any differently really between the 2 tests... To this day I believe that the first examiner was in a foul mood that day and just didn't like me or something... even my driving instructor said when he came out "he failed you didn't he? I knew he would when I heard who you had but I didn't want to upset you before you went out..." so obviously he was known for it...
Look at the positives... apparently people who don't pass first time have less accidents - or so I've heard :)
    You'll do fine next time!

  • I hate to point out the obvious here, but you're not good enough to drive unaccompanied on the roads.

Get more experience and retake your test. You sound a bit like a Goose that's been booed.
  • i can understand that it might of phased you a bit, but im sorry, if something like that means you cant drive safely you shouldnt have a licence

Im sure people have to deal with worse issues than this on a daily basis

She may well be obeying the instructions - that's not the point.

Either she puts up or shuts up, there should be no halfway behaviour as described. She has no right to act in such a judgmental manner at such a crucial time. It's either allowable or not, as she decided it was ok there was no requirement for her condescending actions thus unsettling the driver.

These self- important jumped up twits need a kick up the backside.
  • I appreciate everyone's input. I did think I would just let it go, but especially thank to you, Andy. When you used the word "condescending" that described exactly the situation before the test. I think I will try for a refund to get my next test free, but I don't think I try to get too expectant about it as I know it's almost impossible to get a refund from the DVLA.

It surely is, especially when the DVLA do not conduct driving tests, they are conducted by the DSA.
  • Oh get a !!!!ing grip

You get 15 minors and no majors

You failed because your not that good, the fact you think your perfect says it all for me.

As for the ID thing, the examiners have to combat fraud and challenge cases where they believe its happened, so their actions were perfectly legit.

As for putting you off, your well possible to come across far more offputting on the road:rolleyes:

I suggest you get over your own ego and look at the reasons you failed and combat why a perfect driver managed to make them.
