Hi,
Does anyone know of a current account that offers free or cheap i.d fraud protection?
We have a joint account and it costs £15 a month for both of us.
Many thanks,
Steve

Hi, Thanks for the replies.
I'm With Lloyds TSB.
The Thumb print idea seems great, I'll look into it a bit more.0 -
I have a smilemore joint account @ £12 / month which I think is good value for our circumstances:
Worldwide multi-trip travel insurance
Green flag for 2 people/cars
Unlimited access to both our Experian credit records
ID fraud assitance
Mobile phone insurance - up to 4 phones
Plus other stuffEthical moneysaver0 -
All banks offer "free" ID theft/fraud protection, they are required by law to protect your money and reimburse you when fraud has taken place.
Anything else is a waste of money, and adds little over what protection you get by law.
£12/month, that's £144 per year, but you can get multi-trip insurance plus breakdown for far less than that per year. The credit records you can get either for free (as described by this site), or for £2 a time.
And mobile insurance can also be bought separately cheaply, and often doesn't cover where it ought to or has a large excess, especially when bundled in these sorts of deals.
And as discussed, banks are legally obliged to offer assistance when fraud has occurred.
All things considered, £144 a year for that does not sound good value!0 -
ID theft assistance comes free with HSBC Current Account Advance when you pay in over £500 a month.
Richard Cocks: What you're describing is just protection against banking fraud, which is standard. ID theft is something linked, but markedly different, which often requires legal help and advice to overcome. That's what the OP is asking about.0 -
Products like this may add to your peace of mind, but in reality they are liable for any losses due to ID theft, not you. These products add almost nothing that a normal bank account doesn't have.
What makes you think ID theft often requires legal help to overcome? Report any suspicious activity to the bank as soon as you notice and they will deal with it. The trick is to ask exactly what this supposed additional protection actually is, often it's just some "oh we keep you informed via text", or "we will assign you a personal case handler" or some other reassuring gesture that ultimately doesn't provide any additional protection.0 -

Please provide specific details of a multi-trip travel insurance policy for 2 adults & 2 kids, car breakdown insurance (including homestart) for two vehicles/insurees, 2x UNLIMITED (i.e. on line access) Experian access, mobile phone insurance for up to 4 phones, all for less than £144 p.a.
You can't.
Experian alone is £59.99/person per year.
So back off & DYOR first.Ethical moneysaver0
