We were similar to Spendless and knew our area and the house types in the estate we wanted to move to.

We looked at many online and did a few drive bys but only actually viewed this one that we live in now. And it is the perfect house for us and we have been really happy here for a few years now with a view to staying here for many more years to come.

1st time round(1995) we looked at 2 and bought the 2nd one but not because we loved it, but because we needed a house. It was bigger than the 1st and £20k cheaper and we were also young(20 & 22) and a bit green as far as property went. This time we viewed about 7, 5 of them in the village we now live as after viewing the 1st one here we decided this was where we wanted to be. We really liked 5 out of the 7, but properties get snapped up really quickly here so we missed out on the 1st one(our favourite). We ended up buying the last one(we had to fight for it!!). We've been here nearly 2 months and we love it, it really feels like home.

I looked at about 6 and offered on the last.

Viewed one property which was not pleasant, the guy had a cold and was snotting everywhere, he showed us the bedroom, only to be greeted by his wife in her nightie asleep in the bed... make my excuses and ran!
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

Found the right house on the 2nd attempt...however, turned out that the vendor had just rented it out...so was very disappointed. After that we viewed loads that weren't right for us.

We looked at two in one evening and offered on the second, where we currently live; it had only gone on the market that day, the offer was accepted the next day, and we and the previous owners were all a bit gobsmacked at how quickly it had all happened. We were already renting about a mile up the road so knew the area well.

The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

We looked around six houses and bought the second of them. We knew we loved it first time round but as first time buyers thought it was important to look round more, but each one we looked at just couldn't compare to the one we already loved.

I looked at about 12 properties before I found this house, but have looked at well over 30 properties in the past when moving previously. I never seem lucky enough to find the one for me after looking at just 1 or 2.

I'm thinking of moving this year or for definite next year, so am prepared for a long hard slog!
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Looked at what felt like hundreds online, narrowed it down to 3, chucked another one in to make up numbers, flew out to view and ended up putting an offer in the the "make up numbers one" :)
  • One. Well, saw two after it but the first was/is "the one". Holding out now for them to accept our (3rd) offer.
We had pretty specific wishes though (not least of which proximity to ds's school, fine views from the patio for summer G&Ts - in no particular order) and I know the area well.
