Ive emailed The Mirror (national newspaper) about this.

We are in 2008, we have so much compurter technology these days that we can verify facts at an instance. We can trace DNA, the police can check all details of ones car with one radio call. I cannot believe that a rail company can treat a child like this even though they know that she has a valid rail card.

i cannot believe that a national company can dismiss something rather than seeing sence as they know that she does have a valid card, THEY KNOW WHO SHE IS, HER DETAILS ARE ON THE SYSTEM!! yet they do not want to show any compassion. This is criminal in this day and age.

Maybe i have no leg to stand on, and will have to pay the £17-50

I have 7 days to pay, but i'm sure if the Mirror find this intersting they will reply by then.

    This world has gone mad!!

Actually she did have a valid ticket.
No she didn't as it's a requirement that she has the Young Person's Card to travel with a Young Person's Ticket

Try and get the Mirror to contact National Express and if they fail to embarrass them with adverse publicity; pay up.

that is exactly what im going to do! (i have 7 days to pay)

I cant believe there are people on here (even though i have thanked them) that cannot except that we are human beings, and now and again we tend to forget minor details. Is this correct that we have to be punished for minor forgetfullness that we can later prove??

We live in a sad world if that is the case.

It's the Jobsworth syndrome, a nasty mean virus that should be stamped on at every opportunity.

Bad advice IMO. She did not have the railcard. The ticket itself states it is only valid with that card. Think you will find many others have been in the same position and tried to kick up a fuss in the media etc and it's probably done them no favours.

Suppose two people bought a ticket for the same journey with one rail card. One travels with it, the other says they left it at home and gives details. The name and address would be checked and found to be OK. Result - two people travel with one card.

I once went to a football match without my ticket and guess what? They wouldn't let me in even though I told them it was at home and if they'd checked on their computer systems they would know I bought one..

I don't want to sound too facetious because, as you say, we are all human and all make mistakes. The key though, is to accept the consequences of your mistakes and learn from them.

Yup, problem with this sorta checking is people will give their ticket to a mate, the mate will go in then you can say "run a check, you will see i bought a ticket", etc etc etc
  • if ticket was bought with a valid discount card, i cant see why inspector had a fit..

send copy of discout card back with their letter (recorded delivery, or maybe even fax it..?), asking them to reconsider, and save valuable court time / costs etc-

money perhaps they should be using to keep the trains going:confused:
