Help! £500 quote from garage that seems a bit much!

I was reminded of my experience with Nationwide at the weekend.
I drove our Ka back from where I keep our other car, I'd been using the bonnet prop as I'd used jump leads and the rumble of the knackered diff that Nationwide diagnosed was back.
Grumble grumble grumble went the noise, but when I got home, I popped the bonnet prop back in the boot where it lives now.
And the Ka was fixed again
I'd look for a 2nd opinion!
 Shocking! Yep, we're definitely getting a 2nd opinion!Thrilled to be DEBT-FREE as of 26.03.10

Ooops, I'm thinking my OH should have come on here before he went running off to Nationwide!
Thanks for the reassurance.
Even if it turns out they were right (which I have a sneaky suspicion they're not!), at least we'll have got a second opinion.
He's taking it to an independent garage now, as the recommendation of a couple of my colleagues.
Fingers crossed!
Its good to go on recommendation - word of mouth etc.
Good luck, hope you get it sorted.Genie

Troule is a little Clio may only have 13/14" wheels so the tyres may only be £30each for budgets. Amazing how Nationwide only find stuff wrong that they fix. Never an injector fault, electrical problem or more complex issue...just tyres, bearings and im surprised they didnt say shocks
I agree somtimnes place are a bit over the top with needed work and prices though
as for all the wheel bearing being done you'd know if they all needed doing. Plus tyhere good and strong on the clios realy unless you play at hitting the curb hard a lot.0 -

Clio wheels are a wierd 65 profile, still not too expensive, expect £60 each, BUT, you really should be capable of determining for yourself if your car needs 4 new tyres? No offence, just common sense.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
