£5000 Xmas Present on Benefits?

hi folks,
hope someone can help me as my sister and brother are both getting £5000 each for there xmas from there mum and dad.
my sister is on job seekers allowance and my brother is on long term incapacity benefit so i just wanted to know if they need to let the benfiits peolple know about this £5000 xmas gift they are getting form there folks?
will this affect or reduce the benefits they are getting at the moment because of this one off payment at xmas?
hope someone can give me some info on this and if there are any links to any goveremnt websites that would be great!

£5,000 christmas present? you sure theres nothing dodgey goin on?
the moneys obviously goin towards somethin, pay off debts, holiday etc etc so why not just give them that

i know i was shoked aswell but the family recently sold the family business earlier this year so nothing dodgey going on im afraid, this is the first time we have had any thing like this amount.

For JobSeekers Allowance you can have capital up to £16,000 before you become completely ineligible. Owning Capital between £6000 and £16000 will reduce the amount of benefit.
As far as I know, same rules apply for Incapacity Benefit (which is now superseeded by Employment and Support Allowance).
To answer your question, a claimant has to notify the benefits agency of any change of circumstances that affects their claim for benefit. In this case, if the £5000 payment brings their capital above £6000 then they would have to notify them.0 -

There is no limit to the amount of capital you can have with Incapacity Benefit as it is not a means tested benefit.0 -
