I can not believe anyone would suggest (never mind recommending) Story Book Glen !!!!!

I visited it recently and could not believe how badly lacking it is !!!

we took my ex's son there last year when i was meeting him for the first time and we all had a great time. i'd been when i was his age (4ish) and looking at all the places i remembered only in photos was great.
  • Crathes Castle playground is always a hit and, if work goes to plan, the new adventure area for teens and older will be open in the summer.
Don't forget a picnic by the rivers (Dee or Don) throwing stones. We were at the picnic site opposite the Feughside Inn a couple of years ago. Plenty of paddling etc and, in the middle of all this, an otter strolled along the opposite bank watching everybody! Seals are common all along the coast and the RSPB have boat trips from Stonehaven to watch the birds (check their website). Huntley Bird of Prey centre is good for all ages.

Hazlehead Park has a good Pitch and Putt and Pet's corner.

If you want places to yourselves remember the schools break up and go back earlier than England so the kids go back to school on 21st August

If you're a fan of the film Local Hero you could visit Pennan where it was filmed. Not much to do but it is quite breathtaking. You could always get your photo taken outside the phonebox. :D
Gardenstown is not far from Pennan and if you're into scenery then there's plenty there.

Gardenstown is the most idyllic place in the whole wide world! I went there first time last year, been back 3 times this year - loooovely place - and people.
  • Try a 2 mile sprint near Pittodrie Football Stadium on a match day. Its near the beach so plently fresh air and if you wear a Glasgow Rangers football top you will be joined by 2 or 3 hundred locals who will help you achieve maximum speed.
