Great choice for your holiday. Aberdeen has it all - a compact city with enough shops; beach; historical stuff; beautiful countryside; all within short travelling distances of the city. August is usually warm and sunny.

Try the Youth Hostel for budget priced family accommodation. it is 10 minutes walk from the city centre. Very good value, can do your own cooking or eat out. https://www.syha.org.uk

Aberdeen International Youth Festival is on in August

World Class Youth Arts Festival! Free stuff each day, and all kinds of events for all the family.

Let us know how you get on!

  • Try https://www.visitscotland.com/aboutscotland/cities/cityofaberdeen which should give you an idea of where you can stay, what you can do.

    Also

    http://www.british-publishing.com/Pages/AberdeenOG/introducing.html

You could also try some of the sites like:

    http://www.british-trust-hotels.com/

where you could get decent, reasonably cheap deals in Royal Deeside - Ballater, Braemar, etc.

Good luck - there is loads to do in the Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire area - whisky trails in the North of the region, castles all over the place, shops, museums, Inverness just a couple of hours drive away.

First stop in Aberdeen should be the Tourist Information centre on Broad Street, part of the City Council Offices.

    Hope that helps.

God, I didn't realise how many fellow Aberdonians there were 'rakin' through this site! Great stuff! Aberdeen is cold but there is plenty to do and see. Us locals are all pale blue in colour (due to the cold weather!), the countryside is very beautiful and very green (due to lots of rain) but it's ours 'n we love it! You'll have a great time. :0)

  • Try a 2 mile sprint near Pittodrie Football Stadium on a match day. Its near the beach so plently fresh air and if you wear a Glasgow Rangers football top you will be joined by 2 or 3 hundred locals who will help you achieve maximum speed.

I would say even for just two weeks it would be worth buying a spree book - http://www.spreebook.com/index.php - it has all sorts of offers such as bogof on ice skating, cinemas, satrosphere, it has offers on restaurants and takeaways including Burger King and pizza places - I don't have one so I can't give you specific info, but when I was in Aberdeen last weekend I saw my friends and I reckon if I was to go to Aberdeen with the kids for a week I would probably save much more than the cost of the book - and at the same time you are helping charity.

The book is currently £15 and lasts till October (its a one year book) - a list of the places you can save at is found here:

This looks good. How do the books work? Do you get a percentage off items or vouchers for the places listed?

A great pkace to visit is Aviemore. Chek it out. Fantastic. :j

The vouchers are in the book and for example some maybe for dominos pizza, burger king, KFC. Some are shops, golf courses, restaurants. Like buy one mean get one free, 10% off shops, one free round of golf. Things like that. I dont have this years one (poo) so cant say for definite whats in it. But you make you cash back that you paid for it many times over if you use it enough. Really worth it.
