we love chicken in white sauce. we buy icelands own in a tin. it is £1.79 a tin. but i only buy it when it on BOGOF or £1 a tin.
Now i was wondering if anyone has tried this so knows how it taste , to know how i could make it at home. i make white sauce but it never taste how it does from the tin. and by my reckoning it should be cheaper to make. as 1 tin is never enough for the family but 2 tins is too much.
any recipe ideas would be so gratefully recieved.

Does the list of ingredients on the tin help give any clues?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I add half a teaspoon of english mustard to my white sauce, gives it an added tang, without being to strong and overpowering.0

truth be told squeaky , i never even thought of that. ( hangs head down in shame. lol ) .
i like the idea of mustard, and will do a search now for chicken supreme. thanks guys.0 -
Our favourite is honey and mustard (and my HD hates mustard so don't tell him!!) I make it by following the ingredients on the tin. Remember they are listed in quantity order, greatest first.
Sometimes I use one jar, if BOGOF, and add extra ingredients like stock, tomato paste to stretch it a bit.
Another thing, use cornflour to thicken. It gives a more smooth, glossy texture to the sauce than ordinary sauce.Love living in a village in the country side0 -
How about poaching your chicken or however you like it cooked and use a tin of condensed soup as the sauce? I do this all the time for my chicken and broccoli bake. If the soup is too thick you can add water milk or cream to thin it out a little.

I'm new to this, could you tell me how to poach chicken ?0

to give the white sauce flavour bring the milk to the boil first with some herbs or spices and then strain if you dont want the bits in the sauce.
I have used peppercorns, cloves, garlic what ever is to hand but not all together! also add sauted mushrooms onions and a dash of tomato puree/sauce as a change.0 -

Usually it just means simmer gently in a liquid. Slow cookers are ideal for this, though you could use, say, an inch of liquid in a covered casserole dish and cook it in your oven on a low heat.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
