Clicking noise in Fuse box when wipers work in car

Hi, there seems to be a little problem I discovered in my ford focus 05,

When I use the wipers – I can hear what seems to be a click in my fuse box (under the glove compartment)

It only clicks when the wipers start and stop (not when they r continuously working – only when I do the single wipe or the very slow one) the click is also hear when I activate the rear wiper. Any idea what it may be??

Many thanks

Electrical relays are mechanical switches and the 'click' is the relay making contact. Call it a design feature if you like.

You can leave them on as long as you like, it'll not do any damage. Don't worry about it.

No I donth think it is the relay 'tick' that normally Is heard. I ve never heard it before and have had the car 4 over 1yr. Its not heard when they working fast, only on slow front and back? Interesting...

It does sound like a relay. The relays on most of my cars were always in or next to the fuse box.

I suspect that when the wipers are on constantly the motor turns continuously, but in "intermittent mode", a timing circuit is used to turn a relay on/off, which starts/stops the motor.
