Orange PAYG - Possible to Withdraw Balance?

We have had an Orange PAYG phone for years which we loaded with £50 over 4 years ago (they had an offer for X% free or something). Since there were so many offers on 12 months free line rental, we took up some of those and therefore no longer really need the PAYG. However, as we have £30+ still remaining, we need to ideally withdraw it so that we can port the number. Is this possible to withdraw as I understand that if you PAC the number, you loose the balance? Or is anyone aware of any service that we could use to get the money out (something charged to your mobile account, for example?).

Many thanks

I think that is only any use if you upgrade from Pay&Go to Pay&Go...

In the original case, it is my understanding that you wish to leave Orange Pay&Go for a contract on any network. I had to do this once, and they didn't give a refund
I can't think of any way to get your money out of it, hardly worth buying £30 of ringtones

I'd be amazed if there turns out to be a way...

    Sorry

Thank you for suggestions so far.

£30 of ringtones? - though it does show that it is possible to charge some items/services to your mobile phone account - you could also donate to the DEC Tsunami fund by text last year, therefore the facility exists but have not seen other services that can be charged to the mobile phone account? I would be interested if anyone knows of any.

An alternative - is there a way to transfer a balance to another Orange PAYG account?

    Many thanks

  • You could try to recover some of the value by selling the SIM on ebay. Doubt that you would get all of your money back, but you should get something.

Thank you - I had considered that but need to keep the number. Is there a way to port the number off this SIM to another and Orange assign another number to this SIM to keep the account live? This would then mean I had a SIM with £30 loaded on it and manage to keep my number (effectively transferring the balance to another account).

If there are no alternatives, we will just have to keep this account running until we can use the credit up.

    Many thanks

Ask Orange if they will transfer the amount onto a Monthly Pay account. They might do it if you're offering to stay with them for 12 months.
  • For me, Orange wouldn't transfer the credit, and they wouldn't transfer it to another number.... I tried everything, but it's always worth asking them again.

Remember, they want to make money out of you!

A couple of years ago I lost my Orange payg phone, which had £38 on at the time..
I rang orange and they cancelled my old number, so that anyone finding it could not use it,and allowed me to start again with anew sim card and number and transferred the credit from the lost sim to the new one.

They also re-instated my ''orange out here''
text package,(which I still have to this day).

Don't know if this is any help to you, but you could try ''losing'' the phone I suppose.

You shouldn't have a problem getting the credit x-ferred from 1 payg sim to another. Just ring a couple of times if you get any probs and someone'll do it for you. The reason they dont ever refund the airtime is because it is exactly that, airtime and not cash. If they allowed refunds then you'd get every tax dodging individual stashing thousands on thir sim cards and writing it off as business expenses ready to claim it back any time it takes their fancy. :D
