I'm looking for a Christmas present for my brother. On Ebay I've found what seem like a good idea - Heated windscreen de-icers. Does anyone know if they are any good.

Thanks,

Susan

  • Had one it was rubbish, by the time it was warmed up I had already cleared the screen. just use an odinary one now.
  • things like that are rubbish gifts to be honest!

A 4 pint milk bottle of cold water does the job much quicker

Suspect it will be a waste of money. Personally I use Ice Scrapers that come with a sort of built in mitten to stop you getting ice all over your hand. Maybe one of those would be OK as a present?

I just use the kettle after making my morning cuppa and fill that up with cold water (ie water is luke warm NOT hot).

Fortunately I can still start the car and get the heaters going without risk of having it nicked....lol

I used to do that, but now i use the milk bottle trick so i dont have to take the kettle back in the house!
  • There is no need to use a scraper. A jug full of tepid water will clear a screen instantly.

Idling your engine in the morning is also asking for trouble, both increased wear and tear, and risk of theft.
  • Woolies are selling a heated car key (for thawing frozen car locks), and a heated windscreen de-icer for £3. Was £12.50, marked down to £7.50, took it to the till and it scanned in as £3. Bargain just for the car key which is basically what I wanted it for.

Why are they only on Fords?

2 litres of water from the hot tap melts my windscreen everytime.
