Buyer asking for tracking number??

Hi all,
Just sold an item for £15 and received PayPal payment from the buyer. My auction states first-class standard postage with proof of postage to be obtained. On the PayPal notification, the buyer has put a note requesting I email them with a tracking number when posted but, as far as I know, you don't get this with proof of postage do you?
Can someone please clarify, so I can email them back if there's a problem.
Many thanks.

Hi
No you dont get a tracking number with a COP ( proof of posting )
I should have said make sure you keep a hold of the COP till feedback is left or they email you to say its arrived.

I would just email the buyer stating that they paid for 1st class postage which doesn't include a tracking number. If you haven't already sent it out then i would ask them if they would like to pay extra to have recorded then they get a tracking number.

You don't get a tracking number with proof of postage. You could explain this to them and offer to scan the PoP slip when the item is sent (if you have a scanner). Or offer to upgrade the postage to a type that can be tracked, if they will pay the extra costs involved.0 -
If you provide the proof and royal mail looses the item then you will have to be the one to claim the money back. Always email your buyer to keep them up to date otherwise you will find that they will bounce the transaction back as fraud and leave you bad feedback.Kind Regards

all very well - and there is noone more paranoid about paypal transactions than me - BUT what chance have you of selling a £15 item if you are going to whack the £4.25 min for special delivery on it (or does recorded delivery allow you to track online too? - cant remember!)
Either way, even if they claim non delivery, you can still claim off the post office for up to £28 items that are lost so what odds?
i sell the odd ps2 and xbox game and i mark my items for £2.00 postage first class to include postal insurance. i get a COP and if any items go AWOL and only one has in recent memory i claim it back from the post office...0 -
Recorded Delivery is trackable online to an extent and is only 63p more. I never use anything less! Can I help?0

I was told by my Post Office that Signed For (or Recorded) is only trackable once the item has actually been delivered; if it hasn't been delivered then it can't be tracked, you just have your proof you posted it.The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0

It's 66p and can only be tracked if the postperson bothers to do the paperwork when it has been delivered. I always send my items by recorded and quite often they don't show up on the Royal Mail website as having been delivered even though my feedback shows that they have.Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.
