worried_student wrote: »Hi all,
I have been reading through the forum and am finding some comforting posts but would just like clarification that I am doing the correct thing.
I received a "parking contravention enforcement letter" just before Christmas for parking in a shop car park from 7 - 10 pm, apparently the free parking is only for 2 hrs!! I had not realised that 2 hrs free was for the evenings as well and had not seen any sign-age on entrance to the park and as it was dark and I was a female on my own, I wasn't about to start a search for any! (there were hardly any cars and almost no shoppers)
I followed Martin Lewis's money tips recommendation and sent a template letter stating that I would not be paying blah blah due to lack of sign-age, unfair amount etc..
I have since been reading that the best thing to do is to ignore completely?!
I received a letter back saying that there was adequate sign-age (consequently they have put more and bigger signs around the park!!) and that i had to pay the £90...
I ignored this letter and two months later I have now received today another letter from a different firm saying in big letters "do not ignore this letter" and that they have been instructed by the original company "to recover the parking charge"...
The "debt" is now £178.13 and that I should pay immediately or "further action will be taken at considerable cost to " me!! (where did they get the 13p from??!!)
Now i'm a bit worried, am i going to be getting calls or visits from bailiffs ????
Do I just ignore this letter or do I ring or write telling them that I will not be paying anything????
Any tips would be gratefully received as I am now very worried about big fat bald ugly bailiffs turning up and forcing their way into my house???!!!!

WS. there will Not be bailiffs coming to visit you unless you are taken to court (very very small chance)
You lose case (even smaller chance)
You don't pay court(even smaller, smaller chance)
Then, and only then do the bailiffs become involved. Anyone else calling themselves bailiffs have no legal way of forcing you to pay anything, all you need do is to tell them to go forth and multiply (or any version of this)I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Could anyone tell me how these so called debt collectors get your home phone number when you are ex directory please?0

I followed Martins instructions as I was not the driver, sent a letter to that effect. I've now had 2 letters from them and a further 2 from Debt Recovery Plus (none of which I've replied to). The one that arrived today was headed "Notice of Litigation" and advised that my 'penalty' had been reduced from £138.75 to a bargain £111! If not received within 7 days they 'propose' issuing County Court proceedings.
Question: do I still go ignoring them?

Yes. They are offering you a discount, which means they are desperate. Ignore this one and you probably won't hear from these muppets again.0 -

I think it will be among the details they scandalously buy from the DVLA for £2.50, having convinced the DVLA that they have a good reason (i.e. just because they say they have a reason, and because they have a company name with the word 'parking' in it!).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Hi,
I've got a quick question - would be grateful for any help.
I recently received a parking ticket - i was wondering whether this would have an effect on my car insurance in the future and also whether the ticket is linked to my name? I need a CRB check soon and was wondering whether this would pop up?
Thanks0 -

No. If this a private parking ticket then is a civil matter, not a criminal one. It will not effect you insurance or your CRB status. Just ignore the parking company and do not contact them. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0
