Buying in Bexley borough

I posted a message on someone else's thread and then realised it would make more sense to post a separate one.

My husband and I have been renting in Bexleyheath (near the Woowich building) for a year and are now looking to buy in the area. We have had no trouble here but we know the area does not have the best reputation. However, it's convenient for both our jobs, has a comprehensive high street and has nice houses within our budget.

We have no children but are planning to in the next 2 years, so we would probably need a primary school in the next 4-6 years. I doubt we will live in the area long enough to need a secondary school. I know there are people on this forum who live/ have lived in the area so I would appreciate it if you could give me an idea of what the primary schools are like in the area.

We are looking for houses with easy public transport to London (i.e. bus stops or near-ish station). So any suggestions for specific streets/ post codes/ wards to look at would be helpful. Thanks very much.

For a bare statistical analysis of primary schools, type your postcode into www.upmystreet.co.uk . Couldn't tell you much about schools, but I did work in the Broadway for years, and the area has less problems than much of SELKent.

Thanks! It's a relief to hear the primaries are not too bad. We plan to sell the house again in 5-7 years depending on the market so hopefully won't need the secondaries.

Right now we've liked only one house - on Granville Road - it's not far from Welling High Street but it's near Danson Park too. We have other viewings scheduled so will check back here with street names.

    Hi,

If you're looking in Bexleyheath, South Bexleyheath is nicer. The only good primary school I know of is St. Paulinus which is on the Barnehurst/Crayford borders. It has an excellent reputation, but you do need to be parish members of St. Paulinus Church. It's a fabulous church.

Barnehurst is also a very nice place. Mainline station with regular service into Charing Cross, London Bridge, Victoria and Cannon Street.

    Good Luck :)

I live in bexleyheath (my house is currently on the market!!) and my daughter goes to Bursted Woods Primary School which is probably one of the best schools in the borough. It is fantastic.

Thanks! Really appreciate that input as the house was very nice and convenient for commuting. We were considering it seriously. I think we'll wait till we've seen a few more properties now.

We live quite near Barnehurst station at the moment actually but never realised Barnehurst itself is a nice area. Will add that to our search list. There seem to be a lot of properties for sale near Northumberland Heath. Is that a nice area?

Thanks! That's good to know. What is the catchment area for the school? I'll add its post code to my search. Incidentally, do you have a rightmove link to your house? :p
