Phones 4 u problems

12 months ago I bought a mobile phone contract through phones 4 u (in store). I was on a university placement for 12 months, so I knew that after the placement, I would go back to having not a lot of money, so a 12 month contract would be perfect and let me have a nice phone.
I explained to the guy in store that 12 months was the only option for me (he kept pushing 18 months) and eventually we came to an agreement.
He managed to sell me insurance as well for the duration of my contract, but he told me that after 9 of my 12 months I would be able to cancel my contract as a benefit of taking out insurance. I thought that is was worth it, encase anything was to happen with my placement, and I ended early.

Obviously, its been 12 months and I thought I was reaching the end of my contract. I call up and ask what was happening and they said I'm on an 18 month contract. There is NO way at all that I would have ever signed up to an 18 month contract. I also informed them of the offer with the insurance I was sold, and they said they have never heard of such a case.
I'm having problems finding the contract I signed when I got the phone so that’s not helping me at the moment, but I noticed on the phone, they claim I'm on a vodaphone anytime 750 plan, but on my pills it clearly states anytime 500, so clearly somewhere they have screwed up.

Now, how do I get out of this, what can I do? If they wanted to, I'm sure they could cancel it, but they won’t.

Very fortunately, my placement has decided to keep me permanently, so I will be able to make the payments, but I don’t want the phone I currently have any more, and definitely not the tariff I'm on at the moment, as I can get what I have now, for cheaper, with a better phone.

This has annoyed me a lot, and I remember a thing on TV about phones for you miss selling contracts a matter of days after I got my phone, but I expected I was okay!

I have spoken to customer services, written e-mails and asked to speak to a manager/someone higher up and they said they will pass my details over and get them to call me, and its been a few days with no response!

Please, any advice would help me out a great deal.

Thanks

Chris

Vodafone are despicable. They practically never let you speak with a manager, don't return calls or reply to emails and always make a minor problem a major complaint. It's unfortunate you chose this network; no doubt you will think twice before doing so again. Since you didn't check everything carefully at the time the paperwork arrived and now can't prove what you were promised (and in any case it was the retailer who did that) you can only hope that Phones4u or Vodafone will be sympathetic. I very much doubt they will be though - especially in Vodafone's case. You may well have to grin and bear it and avoid both companies in the future.
  • great....so im screwed basically.
  • You could try writing to Phones4U - it was them who gave you the terms so you have nothng to lose.
