I've always preferred older houses - guess it comes from having lived in them until 2 years ago. Although there is something quite appealing about a nice detached house in new development. Lots of viewing still to do I guess

Oh, and before I forget (it is getting late after all), you also seem to have some anger issues towards the current education system. I'm not wholly sure why you felt the need to question my degree in an earlier post. Are you struggling for work? Job been taken by someone younger and better qualified?
No because:
a) qualifications today aren't worth anything at all - as can be seen by your level of intellectual capability (notice that I KNEW you had a degree).

All this geezer did was to come and ask for an opinion on a scheme that had caught his eye and what he's ended up getting is a good old flame fest. Dont ya just love the intraweb!
If you dont like shared equity schemes, so be it. However, given how things are going at the moment Id say that very soon shared equity/ownership will be the only way FTBers will get on to the ladder.

Well, having read the whole thread, that's what it seemed like initially, but it transpired that what he really wanted to do was to show off at what a clever deal he'd discovered. Obviously not everyone agreed so he got defensive, rude and finally wished death on another forum member. All in all a great read.0 -

Sorry mailman but you need to go back to the beginning of the thread and actually read some of jamief's posts. He was the one who got personal and asked someone to die in a fire, as well the post from TTMCM saying that jamief PM'd a swear word attack rather proves that jamief has no respect for an open forum that will have people on it with different opinions.
If you feel jamief has been picked on you really do need to go back and re-read this thread. I was shocked at how rude and violent his replies were when he was told to be careful and ask lots more questions. If a thread disintegrates after that so be it.0 -
I was half thinking of closing down the computer and watching Emmerdale, when I saw this thread in the list of threads and thought it would be interesting, I didn't think there would be schemes like this for another 6 months of downturn at least.
Anyway, so glad I did click on this thread as it was much more entertaining than Emmerdale!

I don't wish to resurrect old arguments but I would be interested in opinions on this.
I am interested in purchasing a flat with the Miller homes miway scheme.
The development is in Cambridge. Property in Cambridge has not fallen as much compared to the rest of the country and is one of the few areas set to ride out the recession the best. There is always demand for apartments to buy or rent because there is a constant turnover of well paid people coming into the city. The development is near the city centre and near the Cambridge 'Science Park' - where there are lots of well paid single people - some of which have already bought into the development.
There is an established development of shared ownership flats on the opposite side of the road that is about 15 years old and the prices compare favourably with the Miller development - a bit cheaper, but they are studio flats rather than one beds. In turn, these flats compare favourably with the price of older property nearby.
In the Miller development there are two flats left, both a bit less desirable because they are ground floor, so a bit less private etc. I can't be sure, but I think they introduced the 'miway' scheme for these to get rid of them and it wasn't offered on the other flats in the block because there is sufficient demand in the city for this types of property.
I got them to knock £5000 off the price and for them to chuck in extras like a fridge and a burglar alarm (not that it's a rough area!) and I have a decent deposit which I dont really want to disclose on the internet.. I haven't put my reservation fee in yet, but the miway scheme in this particular development sounds like a good investment to me given the reasons above, and I wouldn't be able to rent anywhere half as good location or space-wise for the same amount as the mortgage repayments. I would intend to sell before the 10 years is up on the loan.
So..what do people think?!0 -
oh and one of the flats in the same block sold on the open market this week for only a couple of £1000 less than what Miller are selling them for.0
