Thank you all. I have spoken to my dad today and the council have told him that the keys should be available tomorrow so am getting the bus through so I can register the kids at school and get some spare keys cut for my parents. If I can get the keys then hubby can get to work at the weekend getting stuff in the car and taking it through. We may even be able to get one of our friends to help if he is not too busy. That way we may just be able to save the cost of a big van and just have to hire a smaller one. And I can get measured for carpets etc and get a CCG form in as we have spent 8 years living in houses where carpets, curtains and cookers have been provided for us. But am going to look on freecycle to see if anyone has carpets or a cooker that we can get to do us till we get a decision on these things.
Many thanks for all the support I really do so appreciate it. Just had a phone call from SSAFA, they are waiting for proof that OH was in the forces. He showed them his cert of service, but still waiting and not looking like we are going to get any help from them soon, but have had an email to say that the money previous employer owes us may be coming before christmas which would definitely help a lot, it would give us another 2 months of breathing space at least.

Just a tip on the CCG front, they use the Argos catalogue as a guide to prices, so if you stick to what stuff costs in there you're more likely to have success. I did that and was given £200 for an orthopaedic mattress.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

To me it souns like you are doing the best you can. Clearly you are not in the best situation right now but it seems like quite a lot of things you have to wait out -ie the house (which looks like it might be happening - yay!) , the money from the employer, etc.
I am sure things will start to look a whole lot better when you can get into your new home.
Hang on in there - do what you can but don't stress about it too much - it sounds like you have things underway.

P.S I think stepping back, looking at the bigger picture and remembering what you have achieved so far is important- you've had your lightbulb moment, you've survived OH losing his job, you've got lovely kids, you've paid some debt off despite the situation, etc, etc. It's hard but it sounds like 2008 has been a rough year - here's to 2009.

And then you can easily get a better one for less money from somewhere else.0 -
Thank for all the advice.
Just as an update. I got a phone call from SSAFA yesterday to say they havent forgotten about me but they are waiting for confirmation of OH's service before they can proceed. And an email from our point of contact with OH's previous employer to say that the issue of the owed money is being dealt with as a matter of urgency. So fingers crossed the owed money is paid asap, that would give us a couple of months grace as our overdraft would be paid off.
Am just about to get the little one ready, off to go get paperwork from the old school to transfer the kids to their new school, then off on the bus to see if my keys are in (was told yesterday they would be in today!). Then off to school to register the kids at the new one and then off to the house to measure up for carpets, cooker, curtains, etc.
Ames & Tim - many thanks for the advice on the CCG and the Argos book. I will definitely be doing this and then will look online through quidco to try and get a better deal (and some cashback lol).
Fingers crossed today is a good day!LBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:

Chanced sideways upon your posts bb and found the small ideas that occurred to me all posted by others - e.g. Library, Tesco Vouchers sensibly saved for Deals, Freecycle, self-congratulation, a specialist Benefits Advisor appt, use internet and Charity shops for gardening books/advice(Libraries often have seed swap schemes)Again excellent for the children, let them be involved in the Big Bake Days or have a special Monthly Menu choice. In fact, let them have charge of the chart.
I hope you're en route to the new house even now and will next post here full of its possibilities.
As with the others, I add my good wishes for you all and applaud the fact that you have found time to empathise with another poster on these Boards.
That's how I found YOUR post.

Hi everyone, thanks again.
Just literally got back in from being at the new house. Hubby had to come and get me as £8.50 one way on the bus was a bit much! And I have to do it all again tomorrow as I have to go in and sign the paperwork. Hubby is going in on Friday as he is working tomorrow and can't come in at the time they want. They said the council have to get so much rent paid in advance and I just said I don't have that kind of money so have a form to fill in for housing benefit and council tax benefit. They are getting filled in and handed in tomorrow morning, and will try to get the council to say whether or not I will qualify there and then so I can tell the housing office down near the new house. Yes it is small but it will be ours!
After all the excitement, came home here feeling really positive to find no less than 3 letters on the doorstep from the car people. One telling us we have missed payments and to get in touch. One charging us £15 for a phone call! And one which is a default notice and says they want £700 by christmas eve or they are taking us to court!
But the good thing is that they have put on the letter that it is not car finance, it is a personal loan so they have admitted that it is not HP which I suppose is a good thing. I am going to phone them tomorrow from my parents house and speak to someone who has a bit of authority hopefully. As we informed them in advance that we were unable to make payments. They are the ones who are writing saying that they want to come to an arrangement yet when we try taking the advice of CCCS and write the letter to them that CCCS gave us, they point blank refused!
So came home all positive and had all that shattered because some penpusher in england has no idea what we are going through. Well they know what is happening, they are just adding to it!
Never mind! Hopefully tomorrow;s post will be a happier one.
Night night all - am going to try and get some sleep, hopefully I will get some as have been awake for the last 3 days on the trot.
