    Thanks for the reply.
Can I ask why you suggest not funding it from my bank account?
Is the concern about privacy or unauthorised debits ?

Depends on the bank and the account and how you operate the account: Using your debit card for gambling could flag you as a bad risk and the effect of that could be seen with overdraft applications and existing overdraft facilities. In short, no-one likes to loan money to gamblers!

In practise you could see your existing overdraft reduced and recalled in part or in full or an application for an overdraft declined. That might happen or might not happen but personally I don't like to push my luck. It's pretty easy to get cash with your debit card and then finance your gambling with that cash but you will be out of pocket due to fees.

Neteller is well known as the prepaid card of choice for gamblers so topping it up with your debit card could have the same effect as using your debit card at bookmakers directly.

Hi I was in a shop last Tuesday and two refunds were mande to my Pockit, about 5-6pm. They're not yet showing, over 5 business days later. Does anyone know the maximum amount of days?

I want to get a prepaid card as a safety backup. I will keep £200 on it in case I lose my other cards.

But here's the most important feature: I need one with an emergency cash advance feature in case I lose the card. Any suggestions?

You want a pre-paid card that will offer a cash advance if you lose it?

    I think that's a tall order.

Have you considered a Natwest account instead?

They will allow you to withdraw up to £300 from one of their cash machines without a card.

With a prepaid card you can only spend what you have on the card. So no cash advance. Or do you mean transfer cash to a bank account. In that case any which allow transfers out. For example Pockit allow transfers to UK accounts and accounts abroad or try the Unbank Of U.

I live out in the sticks and rely a lot on online purchases so I always worry that my card will be compromised. Well it has been. The bank detected an unusual purchase and contacted me so the card has been stopped and they are sending a new one. I have no idea how it happened. I only use the card for online bills and purchases. I'm double checking my computer but it could be any company I gave my details to. Fortunately no money lost but it's a hassle.
I've thought about using a prepaid card so that there is no access to my current account. Does anyone use a card for this reason and if so which one do you use?
I thought about the Optimum one.

I sort of use a prepaid card for ring fencing mainly as a last resort. I have open to me Paypal, Apple Pay via my MacBook and Amazon Payments. If any of those are not accepted I use the pre-paid card which is a Debit MasterCard. What I never do is use my bank debit card online but for higher value purchases online I use a credit card.

Just to note that the Change Account appears to have revised its fees. At least they are lower than I remember. However some people might still regard them as arm-and-a-leg fees. The Change Account is a Transactional Account which is different from a bank account but the difference between the two is subtle. The card is issued by the much respected U.K. bank, R. Raphael & Sons plc. Anyway it's an alternative.

I was sent an Optimum card a few years ago to replace my Orange Cash card which ended, but I immediately binned it when I saw all the fees.

I use Loot, which has zero fees (including for non-sterling use) apart from £1 per ATM withdrawal after the first two free per month:

Ta will take a look at that - though one attraction of Optimum for me is that there is no charge for online transactions and no charge for debit card top up - which is all I would use it for.
