I want to book 6 seats through Ryan Air but will be charged £72 for the privelege, I was just about to order a prepaid mastercard as per instructions on the main site (which can take up to 10 days) when my wife informed me that her bank card is a Mastercard Debit Card. My question is this is this the same as a prepaid debit card or will we still get charged the admin fee by Ryan Air. She had the card when she opened a current account with Think Banking. If anyone can tell me I would be much obliged as it will save me sending off for a prepaid card and maybe missing out on the cheap flights.
A standard Mastercard Debit Card is not the same as a pre-paid Mastercard (hence the difference in names - pre-paid, means that you have loaded money onto the card, whereas a Debit Card draws funds from your current account).

Just wondering how these prepaid cards would work under the following circumstances.

Someone opens up a card and puts money on it for someone else to use.

Question 2: What happens when the 2nd person goes to use the card - ie do these cards have the account holders names across the front and require signatures if for example the pin doesn't work? Or is it just the pin that is required.

Basically I don't understand how they work if for example a parent loads one up for a child, who's name and signature goes on the card or does it at all?

    Thanks

I think you'd need to read the T&C for the card: if the child is old enough to have one in their own name, then you'd get one in their name - who loads it isn't relevant. If they're not old enough to have one in their own name, they might not be supposed to use it.
Signature removed for peace of mind

    Hi,

I'm looking for a prepaid card that I can load cash onto via the internet and give to the carer that does the shopping for my mother-in-law.

However, it needs to be one that doesn't allow them to get cash out of an ATM.

Anybody know of such a card?

    Thanks

I've never heard of such a card, but as many have free online statements you'd atleast be able to see if cash was withdrawn or if it wasn't spent on shopping.

Thanks for the reply ehlo. I also suspect such a card doesn't exist.

I agree that the online statements should provide sufficient security. Unfortunately the "company policy" is not to allow the use of any cards that can be used at ATMs.

    Hi vinh1000,

Do you know the name of that card. I can't find any references to anything like that. LLoyds TSB used to do a prepaid travel card but that's been withdrawn.
