Hello :hello:
Just wanted to wish you loads of luck and very best wishes for 2009!
I had my lightbulb moment in January (though I think I started to realise things had gone a bit pearshaped in the November). I then set up a DMP with the CCCS, which was definitely the best thing I could've done.
The first couple of months were rather grim, and it was tough battling against creditors' calls and letters when feeling so low in the early stages. As they've all accepted the DMP, I now rarely hear from creditors. Thanks to the CCCS and this great forum, I now have the confidence to deal with creditors - I'm no longer scared of them!
I set up my DMP using the CCCS' online debt remedy so didn't actually speak to anyone until a telephone review in the summer. The guy was so brilliant and so helpful that I burst into tears half way through - and then apologised if he'd upset me! Far from it! I think it was one of those moments of realising just how much I owe and wondering what I did with it all - but the relief of knowing I'm dealing with it is amazing!
This year, I've made no additional payments other than those via my DMP. However, from the New Year, I'm intending to set aside extra money made from selling stuff to hopefully offer a "full and final" settlement to a creditor.
GOOD LUCK :beer:Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***
Paid back just under £50,000 due to some interest added.
Dealt with my debt through a Step Change (CCCS) DMP.

Hi 2009 is my year,
Just wanted to say good luck. I know exactly how you are feeling, it's a huge relief once you finally make the decision to start a dmp. It's been just over a year since I started mine and I can honestly say it's the best thing I ever did. I only wish I had made the decision sooner!
Now you can concentrate on earning/making extra money or savings and get that debt free date sooner!
Take care x0 -
I started my DMP with CCCS yesterday after a fantastic phonecall which put my mnd at ease:D
I also sent the token £1 payments off to my 3 CC companies so will be expecting phone calls very soon.Lucky I have caller display, as I cannot take the hassle at the mo:o

Just had a quick read through your thread - just think if you'd not made a start you're unlikely to have paid it off in 30 years and it may even be lots lots more!!
Well done - as you can see from my signature I have huge amounts of debt that built for various reasons.
I'm now in control and yep some months I get down about it - but I've paid off over £30K now just got a 'little' bit more to do!!!
Be persistant and you'll definitely get there0 -
OK day 13 and pretty fine so far - three of my creditors have called and as soon as I have said I am on DMP and payplan have sent the offers out they have all frozen my accounts for two weeks. Egg sent me a 'pay or else letter' but other than that all pretty stress free so far. I am sure it will all kick off when they get the pitiful offers though.......'Feel the fear and do it anyway'

Just wanted to say Hi!

I am also on a DMP with Payplan. I had my light bulb moment back in September, when one of my direct debits failed to go out and I had over a week to go before I was next paid.
It is such a sense of freedom now that I feel in control of my money and that my husband is now also fully aware of my situation. Helps having someone to answer the phone and field the calls

Hi,
Just wanted to say welcome....... We are also in loads of debt, and yes you will feel down some days when you see other people seemingly with loads of cash to spend, and you dont. But are they spending cash or credit.....one thing is for certain the amount of pleasure we get from buying anything at all, is that it is with CASH which we have somehow managed to get from either selling on ebay or from managing our housekeeping more frugally, hence giving us a bit of spare money. Christmas this year has been bought totally with our money and to all outsiders it looks just like our normal spend, but little do they know there has been some " Canny " shoppin going on there. Gifts with Sainsburys points, BOGOF's etc...........Someone posted take each day as it comes and don't look to the next 30 years......one step at a time and it will happen. Good luck and keep posting.
