  • Ok an update one week in - its been great!!!! I have had two creditors phone I have told them I am on a DMP through Payplan and given them the reference number. Told them my first payment went to them on the 5th Dec and that was that.

I am feeling a bit down as my debt is huge and will take me 30 odd years to pay off at this rate but I then realised that you cant just run away from it you have to just face it and throw everything you can at it and stay persistant!!!!!!!

I am actually very pleased that its four weeks since I used any kind of credit card - yay!!!!!!!

:j Well done you!! But if I can offer any bit of advice, don't look at it as having 30+ years to pay off your debt....but see how much you will have paid off by the end of the month, or by the end of next year...work towards that (perhaps it's 5% off your debt or something)....
Small steps are much easier to make...!!

My DFD has already been brought forward by 2 months and I've only been on my DMP for 6 months...!!

Have you got any bank or credit card charges that need reclaiming?? That could help you get a bit more debt free if you have. That's my plan for the new year, to reclaim my CC charges and my PPI charges - and hopefully that will knock another month or two off my DFD!!!

Stick with it kid - it'll all be worth it in the end...! :rudolf:
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

I agree 100% with Dizzie77 that you should view it as a challenge, not a millstone around your neck for the rest of your natural life. When I entered my DMP, they told me it would take 11.5 years to pay off. 4 Years later and I've paid back over 55%.

Once it all gets settled keep crunching the numbers, take advantage of the daily clicks, surveys and free scratches and see if you can't sort out some eBay sales to boot.

The DMP marks the beginning of the rest of your life, not the beginning of the end :D
  • 2009 will be our year too!

We have been on our DMP journey for just a few months and have seen our debt rise slightly through interest and charges  , we have at least £50k debt and will be on here til the year never never depending on income and the way things are at the minute in construction.

My only advice is to be ready for the emotional rollcoaster you experience when you start up; the worry and sleepness nights from the creditor letters to the feeling of 'Rocky' when you want to fight every DCA who contacts you! :D

However rather than keep having the 'how the hell did we get in this mess?' chat we try and keep positive and keep reminding ourselves that finding this site and starting the DMP was the best thing we have ever done, without either I honestly don't know what we would have done (probably a runner if we could have afforded the tickets! )

good luck with your new life, it is hard to adjust at first, you go from having cards and overdrafts at your fingertips to budgeting every single penny but you will soon realise like the rest of us, it's hard work but so worth it.

The only thing you'll ever beat yourself up about on a DMP is why you never started it sooner.

Good luck I wish you all the best xxx

I have never missed a payment or had an od - until now so it will all be charges from here on in that will be relevent. I havent a clue if you can claim those back while on DMP?

Awww thanks all - it really does help having this board to read and the shame goes away as soon as you realise I am not the only one.

I feel better now - a walk in the forest with the woofs does me the power of good!!!!

I am also very pleased with myself as I just did a mini shop and managed to sort out breakfast and lunch for myself for ............... 20p a day hehehehehehehehe

Is it weird but I somehow feel very very virtuous and well clean springs to mind - living on credit kills your self esteem!!!!

  • Hi 2009 is my year,

    Just wanted to say Hi,

I am 7 months into my DMP with payplan and up to now no real problems...

I have however done CCA requests on all of my creditors and some have came back without proper CCAs, and whilst I still intend to pay them as they are my debts, If the creditors give me any hassle or threaten court action.. My comments will be go ahead this debt is unenforceable, so you will just have to accept the payments My DMP has decided under pro rata payments is due to you.

Just a thought for you as knowing if your debts are enforceable kind of puts you in control..

Good luck on your journey LTDF:T

  • Dear Sir/Madam

    Re:− Account/Reference Number ************

I do not acknowledge any debt to your company.

With reference to the above, we would be grateful if you would send us a copy of this credit agreement, statement of account and notice of assignment.

We understand that under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (Sections 77−79), we are entitled to receive a copy of our credit agreement on request. We enclose a payment of £1.00 which represents the fee payable under the Consumer Credit Act.

We understand a copy of our credit agreement should be supplied within 12 working days.

We understand that under the Consumer Credit Act creditors are unable to enforce an agreement if they fail to comply with a request for a copy of the agreement under these sections of the Act.

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Yours faithfully

Hi again 2009 is my year,

this is a template letter that you can enter your individual details into for each creditior and send along with your £1.00 postal order.. and they will then send you or not depending if they have a true copy of your CCA. A CCA is a copy of the consumer credit act that you should have signed when agreeing to any Loans or Credit cards...

    Good luck...
