Please read as this happened to me on Friday, I haven't forwaded this message this is a genuine experience direct from me (tankgirl-2007).
I had an email on friday saying that my recent paypal transaction had been complete. I logged on as I knew that I hadn't used paypal recently and was shocked to see 3 payments pending on my account! There were to companies one was SKYPE and the other was MOBILE TOP UP ONLINE. The total amount due to be taken out of my bank account was about £42 as I had very little in my paypal account.
I rang my bank straight away to stop the payment being taken and was told that Paypal is one of the worst way to transfer money on the net, they are not as secure as they claim.
I then rang Paypal, they told me that they are aware of these to companies and they know they are unauthorised payments and I'm not the only one who has had this happen to their account......this is the best bit, they've told me there is nothing they can do even though they are aware of this problem!!
I'm supposed to sit back and let the money go out of my bank account and then wait for a refund which takes about 14 days... I do not trust what they tell me especially when they print this on their website................................. .. "PayPal protects against unauthorized withdrawals from your bank account to your PayPal account. We email you each time you make a transaction from this bank account using PayPal."
They have not protected me in the slightest, the advise I have been given is if you have a paypal account and have a debit card or bank account assigned to your paypal remove it, the safest way to use the site is via your credit card. Your credit card company will stop fraudulent transactions immediately even when Paypal won't!!
Or you could do what I'm doing and stop using it completely, they won't let me shut my paypal account down and they won't let me remove my bank account details so I know have the ball ache of setting up a new bank account!! But if this has happened 3 times in the last few days and Paypal won't stop it who's to say it won't be for a larger amount next time!!Hopefully none of you will have this problem.
Hope this helps and please feel free to pass this information on to anyone that uses Paypal!!
