Branches can (and do) process cheques, cash only credits, mixed credits, etc. right up to 7.30 at night, so it's not unusual to see cheques not appearing for a good few hours after they're dropped off.

The bank's overnight balance isn't actually calculated until 9pm, and that's when you need to start worrying about charges. You can overdraw yourself by a million pounds every day and we don't care provided it's back at the end of the day.

No, not a cheque, cash over the counter. Was a bit of a pain as I'd asked him to put some extra in for me to draw while on my lunch break, annoying when you can't access your own money.

Cash paid in over the counter should be available for withdrawal instantly, and you should be able to view it on internet banking straight away as well. It all goes through a centralised computer system, so is processed immediately.
