  • Very sorry to see this show go. I have saved a lot of money by following the advice in it. I hope that another TV Channel will take it up. There is a definite need for this type of programme in the current economic times.

And thanks again Martin for showing us how to reclaim mortgage exit fees! Without you I wouldn't have known about it and got my £175 back. :T

That is a great shame Martin. A brilliant programme which is needed more than ever now. I do hope its picked up by another network. Don't chuck out the set yet!

I was lucky enough to be in the audience for the final dress run before the very first show. Thanks to all the crew, researchers etc. who helped make it all happen.

Would be more useful on BBC 1 than the One show IMHO.

    Bizarre indeed credit crunched IPTW!

Thanks for the past shows they have been great, all the family watching together and we have saved so much :)

Good luck to the crew in getting new contracts and I wish you success with your new ventures :)

No more It Pays to Watch - five, how could you? Five is still a great channel, and that programme was one of the reasons why it was so great.
Great programme, Great presenters, why does it have to go under new management?
If it aint broke, dont fix it

Its a real shame its been canned. The programme helped people understand a lot more about their financial situation and how they could make it better.

I watched the show regularly and still have a few relevant ones on my Sky+ box. But I have to say I'm not surprised that it has come to the end of the line.

The points made by Martin about sponsorship and non-repeatability are fair enough. But if I am totally honest I have to say that the format was not right. I know Martin always comes over as mega-enthusiastic, but the whole thing just came over as far too manic, so the message got lost in the razzamatazz.

To be brutal, the co-presenter, Ruth, was too shouty and contributed little to getting the messages across. I know of a few people who had been put off watching because of her manner, which is a real shame.

I have long believed that finances and budgeting should be part of the school curriculum and I think Martin should be the driving force behind this. He should be doing for finance what Jamie Oliver did for food in schools.

In reality, Channel 5 was probably not the best place for a vehicle for Martin anyway. Perhaps the frequent but irregular appearances on radio and TV will be pulled together into a regular spot on, say, BBC2 with a common theme each time (like IPTW) but in a sharper, more focused and less manic way (unlike IPTW). Martin's talents, reputation and 'familiar face' actually deserve better than Channel 5 could offer.

    Onwards and upwards, I reckon.
  • I'm so sad to hear the news about IPTW. On one recent occasion, I was lucky enough to be part of the audience and have my question answered and I thought the programme was terrific, having watched every episode from the comfort of my armchair.

Although several of my friends who are in the same age group (we're all pensioners) have access to/know their way round the Internet, and are therefore able to glean a lot of valuable financial information this way, there are many who rely on TV programmes, such as IPTW.

Like so many other posters, I have saved such a lot of money, and learnt so much thanks to Martin, and I actually feel his manner and delivery relaxes people, and makes everything easier to understand.

And, like so many other pollsters, I agree that it seems a strange decision to axe IPTW in our current chilly financial climate.

Best wishes Martin to you, Ruth and all your team, who I sincerely hope will find employment soon, that is worthy of their skills.

And to Channel 5 I say "Bah! Humbug!"

    Awwwwww.................no more gold piggies.............*sigh*.;)

I hope the 'It Pays To Watch' team are soon back in employment.

PS Why don't you close/lock the thread in the IPTW board.;)

I noticed that NatWest had nicked the gold piggies on one of their recent rainforest-chafing mailshots that arrived with my statement.

    Shocking!
