I work in a Primary School, statistics show that summer born boys are behind for the 1st 3 years but it evens out by 8 or 9. My sons a July birthday and socially he's great but not up with the 6 year olds in his year group. Not worried as he will catch up and he's happy. I wish that I had never seen it from the other side though as I was there when he started. 4 is too young, the amount of independance needed is scarey. Watching them get upset over going to the toilet, bumping into the big kids in the playground, not managing their coats, carrying their lunch trays and looking completely lost when they can't work something out. I'm lucky as Ben is very confident but I watch daily as some little ones are so un-prepared. Our dutch friends son started at 7. He's now 13 and speaks 4 languages. I personally, now I've worked in a school would be smugly sitting back knowing you got a whole other year at home. Enjoy!
Too many children, too little time!!!
