How long is too long for payment??

Hi all,I sold four items on sunday,2 paid for and posted next day,2 still not paid for,how long do you generally wait before putting on a not paid dispute, and what do you usually say to buyers who have not paid,in order to get money, before placing an unpaid strike against them.I stipulate in my adverts MUST be paid 3 days after winning bid, is this irrelevant or do ebay take a different path. They say contact buyers, but what do you generally say,so thay dont get arsey?? thanks

I wait a week if I haven't received payment, then email the buyer to see if they still want the item before opening a dispute.

Take out your terms about the 3 day payment, it marks you out as naive to scammers and you are asking for trouble. Ebay allow buyers 7 days to pay, you can't do anything until then anyway so why put a 3 day term into your auction page?

I usually send an invoice after auction ends, then on day 5 or 6 send a polite email with a new invoice saying I wondered if the original invoice had not arrived and suggesting they contact me if they require any further assistance. Then on day 8 (longer if they have good feedback) I open a NPB.

Think its still 7 days to pay.

    So I send a reminder day 2-3.

Followed up by stronger reminder day 5-6 (with mild threat that they need to pay by day 7)

On day 7-8 I hit with NPB

All the above subject to no comms at all.

Your must pay within 3 days is a bit pointless and might actually annoy some buyers.

I know I can be a bit of a conspiracy lover but it seems to me reading both these threads and the seller boards on ebay that people with silly terms in their auctions tend to have considerably more problems than people who don't. I tend to suspect a breed of vigilante buyers who are out to make a point.

I have never had negative feedback from an NPB, whoever I usually give them every opportunity to pay and it usually the ones who make no contact that end up with a full NPB against them.

A bit of BIN stomping! I got banned by a selller once for doing this. I noticed that they were selling a lot of an item I was interested in..99p start £29.99 BIN. Most finished at the £29.99 BIN but a bit of digging showed that others went on auction for about the £24-£25 mark, it all depended on when she finished her listings. I started trying to get one at £24..and obviously knocked out her BIN evry time and often with less than a day to go my bid was still the highest at 99p. She emailed me to say I was a saboteur and that she had blocked me..cheek! I was only trying to get the item at less than BIN, it wasn't my fault she didn't understand ebay.
