Ebuyer has Asus EEE PC, the little 8" screen ones for £211, with proper laptops starting at £292. Not sure what you've seen elsewhere but they seem cheap to me.
EDIT: They have this mini-note for £190 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145008 not bad, but not sure what your DS wants to use it for.Cross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:0 -

afternoon.
Bit of a pants day. Felt very 'introverted' at work, just got on with my work and nodded at all the right times. Then went to park with Charlie and slipped in the mud, coated from shoes right up to shoulder.
Everything is now in the wash, but as I only own 1 pair of black trousers (which I was wearing) and I need them again for work tonight, I will be hoping for a miracle drying over the radiator session in a bit.
Apart from that and the fact I'm bloody freezing, OH seems to have downed tools mid-task. There is wood in the hall, tools everywhere in the living room, and chipped away concrete in the floor where he is in the middle of removing an old gas pipe which sticks up.
