Kerfuffle - How did you get money for your recyclables?

    Hello everybody,

Hi Mellika - I live in Canada and here when you buy drinks (excluding milk) in glass or plastic bottles, tetra paks or cans you have to pay a deposit and a recycling tax and then take them back to various points to get the deposit back. It's very much like it used to be in the UK a few years back with pop bottles. So anyway some people throw their bottles etc away and then some people walk the streets collecting it, guess which one I am :rotfl: Of the $2.95 refunded yesterday only 45cents of it was actually mine, the rest was from stuff that I'd collected, and I already have some more to cash in.

When I was still in the UK there was a company that used to go round designated supermarket carparks on certain days of the month and I could cash in drinks cans then, it worked out about one penny per can. So I used to trawl the streets then too. I don't know if they still do it or not. I think it was called Cash For Cans,if they still do it it could be an option for putting more cash in the sealed pot. The only money I put in my sealed pot is roadkill and money from recycling as I can't afford any more, so it's going to be interesting in December to see how much of it has accumulated as a very large proportion of it won't actually be my money.

Hope that's informative and not too long-winded.

    Toodles.

ps. oops, I also put money from my jelly bean/gum ball machine in the sealed pot.:D

    Evening everyone,
Thank you all for the congrats, I'm still in shock from the amount  . I keep checking my bank account to see if it's gone in yet :D . I can't wait to get rid of the O/D's on mine & DW's accounts ;) . That'll be another one in the eye for the bank :p . With clearing the O/D's and getting the kitchen doors & drawer fronts changed we will still have some money left over :T , so I think I'll surprise my DW and take her away for a weekend :D .
Does anybody know any hotels where you can take a wife and a mad Jack Russel Terrier? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Do you think that will put me in the good books?

I think our friend stunty is working nights, so he probably wont be in the mood to get online

Kerfuffle / Toodles - I am from Argentina, while I was growing up people weren't too bothered about recycling, still aren't I think  so poor people would go around picking up cardboard, plastic etc out of people's garbage. Back in 2001 we had a big crisis and most people lost all their savings. Suddenly the number of people looking through our rubbish shot up at least 500%. So the government asked families to separate their rubbish to make it easier for the 'collectors' (my mum already did anyway). So in a way we started recycling, not to help the planet but to help our neighbour in need

I was flyladying the bedrooms today and found about £3 in change so it's now in my pot - not a bad start. Might look down the back of the sofa's later!! I have decided that when doing the washing that if OH has money in his pockets then it is lost to the pot, don't think I'm telling him though or he'll make sure they are empty!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:
