Cleverates does not work !?!

Why dial an 0844 1p/min number (unless you are calling overseas) and pay a 5p BT connection charge plus 1p/min when you can use 1899 at 3p connection charge and 0p/minute? Perhaps I have missed the point and this thread relates to overseas calls. I use 1899 for UK and whatever 0844 numbers are the cheapest (from overseas call checker on this site) for overseas. Great, as, until recently. I had two children in different parts of Brasil and one in Indonesia! I have found 1899 excellent but have had to watch trhe 0844 numbers as they regularily change their rate to try and catch you out.0

This thread is about mobile rates, or at least it should be as it's just assumed that's what everyone is talking about from earlier threads re Cleverrates loss leading mobile charges.0

I think you mean they change the access numbers (i.e. digits subsequent to the 0844 part of the number) because rates are fixed for particular groups of 0844 numbers and cannot just 'change'.steverockers wrote:I have found 1899 excellent but have had to watch trhe 0844 numbers as they regularily change their rate to try and catch you out.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

This minimum charge has always been there, that is one of the reasons why I moved to cable, they used to charge 1.5p instead, but thensome clever sod said if BT can get away with it we will charge the same, and this month it has become 6p  on top of the call seconds. Unless you have full itemised billing the charge will not be obvious, just another moneyspinner.

Yes, cable have a call connection fee, whereas BT have a minimum charge.
A 1 minute call with Telewest at 1p/min = 7p with BT 5p
A 5 minute call with Telewest at 1p/min = 11p with BT 5p
A 10 minute call with Telewest at 1p/min = 16p With BT 10p
Birmingham cable used to have a very low minimum charge, but when Telewest took over the rot set in.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
