Daysoft Contact Lens

Options
I'd just like to nominate Daysoft Contact Lenses www.daysoftlenses.com for the Five Star Service Award for their outstanding customer service.

I was first prescribed their daily disposable lenses some years ago when they were the only manufacturer to make 7.00+ lens and my optician thought they might be a better fit since I have a slight astigmatism.

I found out fairly recently that they supply direct to the customer, provided you have an up to date prescription at the remarkable price of £4.99 for a box of 32 lenses. After ordering I got an e-mail to check that everything was okay and I replied, saying that it certainly was, but I don't get through quite so many lenses as most people because I suffer from dry eyes.

A swift reply ensued saying that since I'm currently using their 72% water lenses, I might actually be better with their 58% ones as these don't dry out as quickly. They also sent me a month's supply free of charge!

After trying them for a week, I wrote back saying what a remarkable difference they had made to me as for the first time in my life I am not aware I am wearing lenses! However since I'd just recently bought a couple of months supply of 72%'s I'd have to get through these first.

They kindly wrote back to say that I can return the unused lenses using a freepost address and they will replace them with 58% ones.

I am amazed to find such customer service - it goes well beyond what you would expect and I'd just say - if you are looking for daily disposable lenses, give them a try - I am so glad I did :T:T:T.

Yes I would definitely agree. Been using daysoft for well over 2 years now and I just find the quality of their lenses and service is the best around.

Used to buy my lenses from an opticians who charged me 6x as much as daysoft do.

One of the best companies out there!

    Debt-free...and staying that way...
  • I suffer from dry eyes too and was thinking of changing to daysoft in january when my direct debit for the opticians runs out. Which are the 58% ones?

They do two kinds as far as I am aware 72% and 58% which refers to the water content. However they explained to me that the higher water content doesn't help the dry eye situation, so although the optician had prescribed the 72% for me, they weren't helping.

I cannot believe the difference the 58% ones have made - I can wear them all day without them becoming uncomfortable, which is a big plus as far as I am concerned!

Good luck with them - it's such a boost to have comfortable eyes :D.

I understand that. I meant what does it say on the box for the 58% ones so I know which to order . My current ones are 69% water.

Sorry - it doesn't actually say anything on the box. I've just checked and all the boxes are the same. Must be to save on packaging. The foil on the lens cases has it on - in a tiny point size, smaller than this: 58%.

My first order from Daysoft was made by phone, so they asked me if I wanted 72's or 58's. At the end of the prescription fitting instructions there was a number '72' and they said this was the water content. It's worth ringing them as they really couldn't be more helpful.

surely you cant change lens types without being seen by an optician!! you give these people a valid script and they provide lenses - you tell them you have dry eyes and they suggest a diferent lens - its like getting a script for paracetomol from your doctor and asking the pharmasist for codine - its not ethical.

more info on daysoft is available at the Ron Hamiltons website

    (guy behind daysoft)

    http://ronhamilton.co.uk/

    quote from his website

Daily disposable contact lenses are the healthiest, most comfortable and most convenient type of contact lens available and I am pleased to have led the invention & development of the the world's first daily disposable contact lens business before selling it to Bausch & Lomb. The subsequent market entry by J&J (Acuvue) and by CIBA (Focus Dailies) should have driven cost down to an affordable level but this did not happen thereby depriving millions of contact lens wearers of these benefits.
Therefore, in 2001, I completed a new lens design and production process and launched daysoft with the goal of replacing these other brands but at a uniquely low cost to wearers. We rely on advanced production technology and the rapidly emerging Internet technologies to achieve this objective and are pleased to see daysoft being marketed for less than £10 per month delivered!

In my case I had already been prescribed Daysoft lenses by my optician, I am still wearing Daysoft lenses, all that was changed was the water content in the lens and that was advised by their optician who knew more about the lenses than the one I physically visited;).

It's quite a simple matter to find out which lenses are sold by all he leading optical outlets including who makes the brand they re-label as their own and provided you have an up to date prescription and continue to have regular contact lens checks there isn't a problem. It's more like getting a prescription for an expensive named drug, but opting for a generic BP specification. It is quite ethical to do this, whereas the ethics of re-packaging, re-branding and re-selling lenses at inflated prices by the market leaders certainly isn't.

To get back on topic, the point of the thread was purely to comment on the five star service given by this company - one that has been at the forefront of producing and developing easily affordable lenses available to the general public.

Generic drugs have exactly the same ingredients and will have the same medicinal effect. That doesn't work the same with contact lenses, where different properties and designs can have a markedly different on eye performance. Hence the need for an exact prescription.
