Advice please, son has an hd tv, the back connector is for an hdmi- dvi cable which he has, but when he connects his ps3 he gets fab graphics but no sound, he also has a gaming chair he could use but the ps3 tries to send the sound to tv so cant cable up for sound to chair? i wondered about getting speakers but not sure what i need or how to connect everything up to allow him to watch tv/dvd/games and get sound plus benefit from the hd/blu ray graphics.
Not sure if im making sense but any advice gratefully received as getting head nipped for a new tele and i just paid 350 for that one 5 months ago!!
Thanks in advance,
Mandy x

DVI is video ONLY. You cant get sound down it im afraid (So your tv wont work with sound)
As for the 'sound chair'. What connections does it have?
The ps3 will supply sound down the HDMI, OPTICAL and its 'sony made' av output
HOWEVER, as its already connected down the HDMI, I think the only way forward is the optical connection

Hi and thankyou, the chair as far as i know (he is at school) conects with the red yellow and white sockets or http://www.xfunctional.com/Manuals/51261_UKXrocker_080530.pdf
altho that is double dutch to me!!
What is the optical connection your linky didnt work? does it connect to speakers or somewher on the tv?

Linky didnt work as this site thought there was something 'naughty' with it (nutters)
Its a DIGITAL OPTICAL connection
Your sons chair is a normal analogue phono connection (red - left, white - right)
The 2 are NOT compatible
HOWEVER
(And im not swearing to this)
Its looking like it can be done
So the HDMI stays where it is. In the box the PS3 came would have been a normal av lead with 2 connectors on it (yellow, red and white)
Connect it to the 'AV PORT' on the back of the PS3 and the red and yellow to your sons chair
then
Go to
Settings -> Display Settings and Settings -> Sound Settings on the PS3 and choose which port you want for video and which port you want to use for audio, respectively.
So video will be HDMI and sound will be down the AV (Without checking im unsure what the EXACT name will be, just try them all
) :idea:0 -
Ah right will try that thankyou x
If not and i need to go for the digital optical connection, where does the other end of that go? into speakers? or tv somewhere? if speakers are there particular ones to look for?
Thanks again sorry to be a painHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0 -
Well get back to me if you need to use the optical (I dont think you will as im 90% sure the AV lead will work)
The optical lead will need a music system (Or amp and speakers) to work (Which wont be cheap):idea:0 -
Darn it seems he is in the 10%! not working with the av, says the chair does not have these connections, unfortunately im disabled and cant get upstairs so everyhing is third party!
what do i need for the optical connection please, i have just bought a new stereo for him can i use that in any way or do i need something else?
His chair has a green audio in socket and a power socket he says?!:oHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0 -
Whats the EXACT stereo he has (Make and model)
Ive no clue what the green socket will be off the top of my head
As for his chair, phonos are THE basic connection. So im amazed it doesnt have them. Is he ABSOLUTELY sure?:idea:0 -
The HDMI cable carries an audio signal, in your case ensure the PS is set to output linear PCM over HDMI.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

I'm not entirely sure why a DVI connector has been used as the TV should have an HDMI socket which would solve the problem.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
