In praise of...wait for it...Ryanair

Never thought I'd be posting this but credit where credit's due.

Just back from a brief trip to Spain with Ryanair. Now, I know the problems a lot of people have had when things go wrong but this was such a painless, efficient and inexpensive trip I thought it worth passing on.

First - we all know that the lead in prices are low but the answer to that is to find out your final price and only then compare the cost with other airlines. Also - keep to the rules. I didn't check in any baggage but I made sure my hand baggage was within the restrictions, size and weight wise. I used online check in and didn't book priority boarding. In fact, they opened the gate and shouted, 'anyone priority boarding?' and when no one rushed forward from the gate area everyone just piled on. I got a great seat.

We took off on time, to the minute, and arrived 20 minutes early. Returning it was exactly the same. I didn't buy anything on board and wasn't hassled to do so.

So in conclusion, play the system according to the rules and Ryanair is capable of providing a very efficient service.

As you say - if you play by their rules then everything will be hunky dory!
  • If you play by their rules, and everything their end goes ok, you can have a perfectly good flight for very little money. But if things go wrong, e.g. bad weather, delays, cancellations etc. you can be stranded with very little help.

But you can often get similar treatment with so called reputable airlines when things go wrong

We have had many Ryanair flights. Luckily all excellent. We also play by their rules, on line check in,hand luggage only, electron payment etc and therefore get really cheap flights. Unfortunately Ryanair have just announced they are pulling out of our local airport. We will however travel to another airport to use them.
  • I have also flown Ryanair many times and never had a problem, however both times I have flown with BA I have!

I'm also a Ryanair fan ... play by the rules as above, and you can get great service! They must be something right - otherwise so many people wouldn't use them!
  • I only have good things to say about Ryanair too!

I too flew with them about two weeks ago - played by the rules when taking bag on board - not had any problems and the plane was almost half empty so could pick and choose my seat.

Its funny watching the stampede that occurs when they open the gates for non priority boarders, anyone would think there was a massive giveaway happening
