  • Katyag can I just say thank you for posting the picture of your jolly little chap - I was having a wallow this evening and feeling fed up about the cold weather and other stuff that's probably not worth the time spent thinking about - having a meander through Martin's pages when suddenly I came across your cheeky chappy!

Well, you just can't help smiling can you - lovely :D

Oh, and as for the pointless posting from some old misery ... well, even more pointless than my wallowing - there's always some self-righteous nitwit around ready to pass judgement - life really is just too short - in my opinion.

Thanks again, having a grin to myself now x

I did thanks to all, especially the one with the photograph, we were having problems as the dummies we were using had no handles. All fine now, and we will continue to use the dummy hopefully until he's about 2 1/4, just to help him sleep at night.

    Thanks again

  • I would much rather give my child a dummy than have them suck their thumb!! You can take a dummy away you cant take a thumb away

Both of mine have had dummies and bump will have a dummy also they were taken away before their first birthday there is no thumb sucking and their teeth are perfect.

Both DD's are now 3 and 4 no dummies, no bottles, no comfort blankets, and definatly no thumb sucking!

What works for one may not work for another and you shouldnt criticise somebody else just because they do things differently to you!
  • My son has a dummy and I always said I'd take it away at 6 months! Here we are 2 months after that and still having a dummy. I can't bring myself to get rid of it yet as he loves it so much. I'm hoping he will get bored of it sooner rather than later but who knows

I agree sucking a dummy is better than a thumb as can be taken away. I have a friend who still sucks her thumb at 25

  • Dummies have been proven to reduce the risk of cot death

I agree that they are not suitable for older children especially when they interfear with speech development but my son has always slept with a dummy and I feel that it helped him with the trasition from night time breast feeding to sleeping all night a soothing himself back to sleep. He does not have one during the day though only at bedtime.
  • Purplegirluk1 I was just about to say the same thing. My parents wished that they had given me a dummy as I used to suck my pointer and middle fingers on my left hand backwards! Now my left pointer finger bends over backwards and my middle finger has a funny zig zag shape to it.... not very attractive.
