    Tour de France cyclists complain about having to eat about 6,000 a day, that it's hard to get that much food inside you.

    that's because tour de france cyclists don't live off a diet of pies, battered sausages, ice cream, pizza and crisps.

    I can just see Lance Armstrong pulling a bottle of coke and a couple of pasties out of his bag when going through the first feeding station. Perhaps exchanging his prawn cocktail crisps for a bag of pickled onion Monster Munch with one of his domestiques.

    I like how you chose pasties, a lot more aerodynamic than a pie.:D

    Reminded of;

    (copyright Douglas Adams), "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish";

    "You can't sustain a story, you know, when the only news is the continuing absence of whatever the story's about. Not our territory anyway, try the Sundays. Maybe they'll run a little "Whatever happened to the Dolphins" story in a couple of years, around August. But what's anybody going to do now? "Dolphins still gone"? Continuing Dolphin Absence"? "Dolphins - Further days without them"? The story dies, Arthur. It lies down and kicks its little feet in the air and presently goes to the great golden spike in the sky, my old fruit bat".

    Mortgage approvals still low. Mortgage approvals - where have they gone? Mortgage approvals - further weeks without them...?

    The difference is that with low volumes, the motivated and distressed sellers are setting the prices for their area, instead of being lost among half a dozen other 'normal' sales for the area...

    ...then your job moves, and a mortgage valuer checks LR for your postcode, and that's the price of your house...
    I think you need to watch the film "Wag The Dog" to see how to do it properly (invent a story if there isn't one, that is).
    A house isn't a home without a cat.
    Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
    I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
    You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
    It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.

    Poor girl. She has just had a baby, you know!

    Don't like her opinions much (at all) but I don't think it's fair to slag off new mothers for carrying an extra pound or two!
    NDG you are absolutely right. It was an easy cheap shot in an unthinking way. I sort of knew it was wrong (allright I knew it was wrong) as I typed it, but because my imagination was a bit sparse yesterday I went for it. So apologies, especially to all ladeez who aren't stick insects. I would say I'm not really 'like that' but I'm only a bloke.

    Any particular reason as to why you missed out probably the most important and relative point of that article??

    Is it perhaps to paint a picture of doom and gloom just like the media are doing ;)

    The peak in mortgage approvals was 128,000 in Nov 2006, the first monthly fall according to Nationwide wasn't until one year later. This shows how much prices lag approvals. There's a hell of a long way to go before prices start rising again, even if approvals have bottomed out, and I'm not convinced they have yet.
