Most engines will come from scrapyards from written off cars, you pays your money and takes a chance.
I imagine a recon unit will cost you a bit more.0

No leaks, no smoke, no oil pressure light??? Whole thing sounds very iffy. I think I would have left it at BMW garage, or better perhaps, get it inspected independantly. No warnings of any kind, just seizes solid all of a sudden?? I would definitely want someone to check it out, RAC perhaps, a more comprehensive inspection.0

Thinking about it again, RAC man says to take it to a garage he knows...yeah, I think I'll be wanting a second opinion.0

Garage phoned a couple of hours ago. Apparently they have found oil in the spark plugs (not sure if I understood all that I was being told but that was the jist of it). Something was broken which made it leak into there and thats why there wasnt any oil on the ground etc..
They are going to try tomorrow and siphon it out and see if it starts. Although they are not holding out much hope.
Looking like an engine - brand new £5k. Or i can take it to my dealer and see if they come up with the same cause and then ask them why they never spotted it in its service 1,300 miles ago when it had an oil change.0

Ask them to test the oil warning light while you're at it. It should resolve the issue, or give you a bit of leverage regarding how you managed to drive so long with no oil.0

Sounds like the engine breather could have failed and allowed oil to be sucked in the inlet. There are a few reports of this happening on the forums.
If it has a full dealer history I’d be tempted to have a word with the dealer and see if they will give a good will contribution. Obviously your case is stronger if you’ve had it from new or weaker if it’s done lots of miles.0

It doesn't sound like the engines has seized, an engine seizing without oil, would have been noisy and stopped your car almost dead, like slamming the brakes on hard.
I witnessed a car engine seizing and it was like an emergency stop with smoke belching from the tyres.Mortgage free
