I Hate Halifax And Bank Of Scotland!

I went into a Bank of SCotland and made a payment on my Halifax credit card in December. Got my credit card statement today and noticed they have not credited my account and given me 50 pounds worth of fines for it! So I called and explained the situation. I now have to go back to the bank I made the payment in despite having the receipt and the fact that branch is nowhere near where I live so they can sort it out. Not allowed to go to my local branch. Then when I questioned if the interest I would have accrued on the invalid fines and the amount covered by the payment would be deducted as well, I was told no, not automatically but that I would have to ask the Bank of Scotland (which is owned by Halifax) for a "settlement" and "good will gesture" to cover those costs. WHAT? They are the same company! Having dealt with the bank of scotland before over a similar matter, I can tell you there will be no settlement. I feel this is going to be a very long and protracted process. Possibly not worth it, but I am really angry about it. If they do this to everyone they make a mistake with, they most earn hundreds of thousands of pounds on interest on invalid fines.

Did you allow the pre-requisite number of days for your deposit to clear? Given the Christmas period it might have missed by a day (I have never understood why our banks take so long to clear money but they usually claim they need 6 working days - which conveniently takes in at least one weekend thereby they get to hold onto your money for longer).
You need to make sure that your paying in slip is at least the required number of days before the production date of your statement. It is possible that you just missed. I know this is a major inconvenience but never take it personally it is very likely that a computer has just followed its set of rules and nobody has ever looked at your account (unless you phoned them up).
I think you should be able to convince them of a good will gesture and assuming there was only a day or two leeway, and this is the first instance, you should be able to sort it out.
While BOS and Halifax may be part of the same group they are probably run as totally autonomous companies with absolutely no overlap.

Which if nothing else is morally wrong and should not be allowed.
Indeed if a bank makes a mistake it should not be goodwill you are looking for it should be your right that the bank covers your costs.
But yeah, there should be a payment due date, and there are usually indicators of when you should pay by using the various methods.
I know I hate Direct debits, but, I think a direct debit for the minimum payment on a credit card is a good idea if you can afford it.
It does sound as though this could be due to the xmas bankholidays.0 -
I also dislike B of S. I lost my credit card and it took 53 minutes today to be put from dept. to dept and to be kept on hold each time on an 0845 number. Needless to say, I shall leave next week.0

The problem isnt that it wasnt credited in enough time. My payment was not credited at all. I went in on December 16th and paid cash. As of today, my payment still has not "cleared" and there is no record except my little receipt. Thank goodness I kept hold of it. I usually lose stuff like that.
Does anyone know if the charges will mark my account or credit rating? Like I said earlier, I am always having problems with my account and I want to change credit card companies. Will the "missed" payment appear on my credit report? If so, would this stop a company from giving me credit?A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water. --Eleanor Roosevelt0 -
Yeah it might appear, but you can ask all concerned to makesure they put the truth of what happened next to it. You will have to ask to see your credit refs though inorder to find out if this has appeared, and I think that will cost 10 pound each (there are two) but I spose you could ask Halifax which company they use experian or the other one.
Dunno about the last qu. All you can do is try, but it will take a long time to get all the above sorted out.
About getting a refund from BOS, I spose the banking ombudsman will help you get your money if they refuse.0 -
UGH! Almost a month after I went into the bank with my receipt for my payment and being assured they would fix it-the payment still has not appeared on my credit card statement. As a result, I have another £50 fine! I have gone into my local branch and explained I have been into the branch where I made the payment (which by the way, is nowhere near where I live or work!) and that nothing is being done. The helpful worker emailed the original bank and asked them to phone me. One week later and nothing. Halifax has said they would take the fines off my account once BoS found the transaction. So I am not to worried there. But I am still very annoyed that I am paying interest on £100 pounds of fines. I am going to have to go in again to BoS and see if they will find the transaction. Since this is my second time going in and they have not called me, is it OTT to ask to be refunded for travel expenses as well as the interest I have paid?A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water. --Eleanor Roosevelt0

Vast sums of Government money has been spent bailing out badly run banks. I have asked my MP Lynne Featherstone to not bother helping the Halifax branch at Crouch end N8 as they are so badly run.
They refuse to pay promised rates of interest on the excuse that there are technical problems with the account, which they did not tell me about at the time.
The Halifax bank phones me when I am working and never replies to my emails.
I started the account with a payment of £1 then phoned the Halifax to check that the £1 had arrived. When they said the money had arrived I paid the rest of the money. I phoned the Halifax before I did this was it ok to use this method to check BACS was working and was told yes. Now I am told, it wasn’t ok and I didn’t make a minimum deposit of £2500 so I have been allocated a minimum interest rate of 0.5% instead of the rate of 6.5% I was obviously aiming at. I say that the bank official misled me on this point, and should have made it clear that my actions breached the terms of the account and helped me put things right but to my astonishment I was told ‘It’s all organized by computer’ and people do not check to make sure it’s all going well.
This means I have been tricked out of £600 in interest payments.
I am very stressed by the behaviour of the bank and have come out in hives so my health is suffering.
My wife went to the Crouch End branch to check on the rate of her regular saver and was told it was making a very low rate of interest and closed it on the spot. At home she checked with the Halifax by phone and found the person in the branch had been incorrect so luckily they reinstated her account.
First Direct, the bank which has my current account feel so sad at the Halifax’s bad behaviour towards me they have given me a present of a bottle of wine and a box of sweeties for my children and they cannot believe that the matter is still unresolved.0 -

It often bemuses me how people use the word hate. If you hate someone/ something for something so trivial, then you really need to get some perspective!Gone ... or have I?0
