The length of time the radiators are on is only one factor - the temps that they kick in at and switch off at also affects usage. You'd probably get a wider range of replies if you said how many kwh you use a day - most of us who pay by DD or quarterly look at the amount of gas used rather than the daily cost.

    Hi

I cant see where the kwh are for gas or electric... On the gas meter there is somethin M2(small 2 level with top of M) and no reading on the meter wherre we put the credit.

Elec units are kwh so 16 units = 16 kwh.

For a metric gas meter you need to multiply the meter units by 11 to get a reasonably accurate number of kwh used.

Or are you saying there is no way of seeing how many units you use?

    Hi

Having only moved into my gf's house (with her mother) I am 100% new to this game..

So we have a electric meter where we put the key in to top up the leccy..

A gas meter which displays a M2 reading...

Could the gas meter be in a different place to where the pp meter is??

  • I have finally managed to find out where and how to make meter readings..

How many kwh's, on an average day would you expect a household to consumer in both gas and electric... We have a 3 bedroom house and have our heating (18oc) and hot water (40oc) on for about 8 hours a working day.

  • Just too many variables to give a precise answer. Average consumption is reckoned to be around 24000kWh for gas and 3500kwh for electricity per annum.

Put it this way. If you are snuggled up on the sofa with your g/f on a cold winters evening wearing only T shirt and shorts then:

    a) the house is too hot and you are wasting energy

    b) your g/f is hot but you are using your energy wisely.;)
  • so what work about 66kwh a day? 2,000 a month

You need to adjust that according to the season. Take a reading today and use your heating/hot water as usual for a week and then take another reading. That will give you a general idea for usage at this time of year. The more weeks you do this the more accurate your pattern of usage will become.
