Selling car on as a taxi

Hi, just wanted to see if anyone could help with this.

My dad has a Fiat Doblo 1.9 jtd which is a wheelchair vehicle. it is an 04.

He is looking to try and sell it on and someone suggested that he could sell it potentially as a taxi.

Although it has been adapted for wheelchair use, it still has the full five seat option in the back as the seats fold down to allow the wheelchair in.

Does anyone out there know whether this would be possible and if it is a vehicle which is likely to be of interest to anyone driving a taxi or taxi firm, given that it could also accomodate wheelchair users.

Sorry if this is the wrong place but just looking for any advice.

Thanks.

Well that exact vehicle is what a couple of local firms use for disabled transport. My sis in law has one too so I know the one you mean. Does it have a ramp?

Hi, yes it has a ramp and it also has a secure lock in device for wheelchairs which makes sure they don't roll about or move at all in the back of the vehicle.

I just wondered whether anyone knows of any specialist place he can sell it on or whether he should just place an ordinary classified or if he should go down the ebay route?

    Thanks.

    My 10p worth.

but 04 is pretty old to get its first outing as a taxi.

Any drivers I know (DH is one) buy new or almost (less than year old) new.

But you could ring some local cab firms & ask if their is any interest.

Yes I know it's getting on a little, he probably should have sold it on already. on the plus side, it has been serviced every 9 thousand miles, my dad is a stickler for maintenance.

Good idea though and thanks, will maybe suggest he try to call local taxi firms and see if there is interest.

If a car is already plated with the council, then a cab driver will pay slightly more for it because he's buying the plate too. To anyone else thats not worth anything.

This DOES have a feature which might interest someone, so it makes sense to offer it where people may pay for the feature.

Thank you, thats Ted (rip) he was a very special cat. His eyes were amber like the precious stone, but its the flash that has made that happen.

Rather than a taxi can you think of somewhere where the wheelchair storage is sought after (& the age not a problem). Like a club or something?

Cab drivers pay for estates & people carriers because they can charge extra for those fares, but I don't think they could (or would) charge extra for a wheelchair space, but still worth a try.

But I have a feeling their is some club or something that would be willing to pay well for the special adaptations & the age won't be a problem at all.

thanks very much for the advice. good idea about the club too.

will get my dad to explore the cost of it being licensed as taxi and he could always try ringing around the local clubs that do things for disabled adults and children to see if they would be interested in a purchase.

would buy it myself as a people carrier type but not enough money alas! even though could do with the space.

Sorry that you lost your cat MrsE. It's happened to me with my cat Buffy, she died rather unexpectedly and suddenly and its not easy to get over. But we have the pics too and the lovely memories.

this is an illegal practice in some, probably most local councils,it does go on but you need to be" in the know" to do it. so i would check it out fully before attmpting it.
advertise the vehicle as it is,if a taxi driver wants it they will find it.
i dont think its too old to be a taxi. but some local councils have an age limit on new vehciles entering the taxi system. some councils stipulate no older than 3 years old. and some also say it must be white,or black. so there is a few more things to consider before advertising it as a taxi.
