booming noise from my gas boiler?

i am getting some booming noise from my gas boiler. is it because of limescale?

Could also be sludge inside the sytem which could require a clean with a special de-sludging product. Limescale inside would reduce your flow of water coming through the pipes.

Does this happen when the boiler fires up?
If so, what may be happening is the the gas valve is openning and the piolet flame is not quite set properly(Small blockage), and not iginiteing the gas correctly from the main burner.
Best to contact a local Gas fitter/plumber asap

Question for plumb1. I have a contract with British Gas that covers all repairs etc to my central heating system. I have a similar noise from my Worcester Heatslave floor mounted combi that sometime you could thing an aircraft is taking off round the corner. The noise is linked to the hot water system and stops everytime the hot water stat kicks in. I have mentioned this to the BG engineers who told me sludge in the system could be the problem.....is BG correct?

If it happens on ignition in the morning it may also be a cracked spark electrode, assuming it's a direct ignition model and not an intermittent pilot.

My daughter had same problem and the pump had stalled caused by build up of sediment. Water in the boiler has nowhere to go and makes a hell of a racket. Remove pump and clean it out or replace it. Pump should have isolation valves either side.
You can check that the pump shaft is rotating by unscrewing the central cap. If it is not, switch off the heating and free up the shaft by rotating it with a screwdriver.
