BT Promised discount then denied all knowledge?

Hi All,
Back in July/August time when i started on the whole money saving thing, i did a broadband comparison and found that i could get the same internet connection cheaper if i left BT broadband.
I rang them up to cancel and they offered me a 4 month deal (no contract) of £18.50 (Approx) a month for my existing 2mb connection, which i agreed to as i could still leave the company by giving just the standard 30 day notice.
After the first few weeks i noticed the discount had not been applied, so i called them and was advised that the discount had not been applied in time for my bill but will definately be on my next statement.
This however the discount still did not apply, i have since left BT due to a house move, and have received a demanding letter.
I called them today and they have completely denied all knowledge of this offered discount, i told them that the person i spoke to previously had put a note on my account, which has now conveniently disappeared.
I am disgusted that this has happened with such a big company, and they are now saying my final bill is £40.23....when infact it should be approx £14.00 with the discount???
Did anyone else get offered this around the same time, as BT refuse to say this offer existed?? Has anyone had a similar experience?
Any advice would be much appreciated, i am waiting a phone call from a manager (should be monday as im away at the weekend).
So if you have anything to support this 'so called' offer please let me know so i can get my evidence ready.
Best Regards
Donna
