O2 iPhone Contract - How to cancel?

Hiya,

I have a mobile phone contract with O2, and have had this since December '07.

I was paying £25 a month in line rental, and have now got them to reduce this down to £15 a month. This is set to run until next June (18 month contract). Is there any way I can cancel this early, without having to pay the remaining 6 months?

Stupidly, I took out a second mobile contract (iPhone) with O2 (mental health problems / thought I had a new job) last month, at a staggering £45 a month (for 18 months), and really wish I had never taken this out.

I have since sold the iPhone to cover other debts :o (I did check with O2 first, and they said I could sell the iPhone legally).

Is there any way I can cancel both of these contracts, while keeping my credit rating intact?

I'm so stressed about this, as I really can't afford the £15 monthly contract, let alone the £45 a month one :o

Any pointers would be most appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Leigh.

I'm sorry Leigh but no there isn't a way to end them. You've entered a contract with O2 and you now have to see out that contract.

Had you still been in the 14 days, and not sold the iphone, then you could have cancelled that one but you say it was last month so thats another 17 months I'm afraid.

Once you get to month nine, so long as you pay the difference, you can drop to the £15 tariff on the iphone at least.

I believe you can cancel early but it isn't worth paying the cancellation fee as £15 per month will be cheaper!

What about the £45 a month? O2 may demand the phone back however!

Have you spoke to them and asked them if they can help you out, however don't expect much!?

There wont be a cancellation fee, she would have to just pay her line rental till the end of the contract.

  • Also, you cannot go to £15 a month with the i-phone. The minimum plan is £30, and you cannot drop until month 9, even then you can only lower it to £35, then to £30 the following month.

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

    Thanks guys.

Gutted. I really wasn't thinking straight back then :-/

Looks like I'm going to take this on the chin, sit it out, and use the phone (I've been using both sim cards in an old Motorola phone) as little as possible.

Like I said, the £15 a month contract will be up next June, and then I'll port that number across, and look to try and negotiate getting the other iPhone contract reduced from £45 down to £35, as suggested.

Is there really no other way out of this?

Has nobody on here managed to reduce their line rental any earlier than the 9 months?

    Thanks again,

    Leigh.

PS - Have just had an idea - although it's probably a bit naughty, and legally a grey area? :-/

I know this is morally, not a great idea, so please don't shoot me down in flames.

Please don't continue to discuss this, it's not just morally wrong, it's fraud which is illegal.

    Sorry.

    Bad idea.

Have been so stressed about my financial situation, and wasn't thinking things through.

Having called up O2 yesterday, and explained how I'm struggling, they eventually agreed to lower my iPhone tariff from £45 down to £35 a month, as of January.

At least that saves me £160 straight away, over the 16 months!

I've also got the Teletech Inbound Sales job. Start training in January, so I can start bringing the dosh in :)
